I read an article on msn about how a labratory was making oil from animal wasteproducts and etc. Read through the article very quickly and I dont have the link. Has anybody else heard of this, aparently the article states that the oil made by them is being used by us consumers.

I have heard about this before. Unfortunately, from what I recall, the amount of energy needed to create a certain amount of 'oil' requires more energy than the amount of energy that could be regained from the amount of 'oil' made. But at least it's a start. I'm all for more people trying to start solving the oil problem today rather than waiting until it becomes a crisis.

I have not read that story, but I do have another one that I read. It is in the Jan/Feb issue of The Backwoodsman magazine.The writer tells about using cooking oil from resteraunts by using a process called 'deesterfication',(not sure if it is spelled right).I have the article somewhere and plan on checking it out sometime.The web sight is www.backwoodsmanmag.com.It sounds like a possible low volume alternative to K1 or diesel fuel.

It would be good if some more companies invest into this technology, maybe they can reduce the amount of energy it takes to create it rendering it an alternative to mining for oil. Its always a good idea to find a use for wasteproducts.

Yes, I belive some berkley grad students made an engine that would run off of "biodiesel" AKA french fry grease.

The Germans had a huge effort during WWII to make synthetic oils etc that was hampered by the relentless bombing campaign.

THe Japanese also made a variety of attempts to produce petroleum substitutes. In a book called "The Prize" which delves into the history of oil (A must read if you really wish to understand its influences during the last century) they even tried to make fuel from Pine Tree Roots Dug up thousands of trees and boiled the roots to make a crude distilate. it is unknown if they tried using it in any planes etc, but Army tests found jeeps would barely run on the stuff.

I thought of this soley by myself the other day shortly after watchinbg something on the science channel about how this company makes from scratch Daimond I believe it only took only two days.

After watching the show I thought... If they can make one of the worlds most precious and prized possessions why cant they make what so many has dubbed the real most precious substance in the world.

I say forget OIL and turn to what I call the most precious. Water. In 2001 an everyday mechanic developed what all of the oil companies and car companies claim to be "SOOO Expensive" to make: Hydrogen molecules separated from water and used as fuel... The mechanic claimed that in a few years that he will have it patented and conversion kits will be available for under $2000.00. also he died within 02' very mysteriously. so even though it has NO physical body the most bountiful resource on our planet is GREED. thats all I have to say.

I am currently working on an engine that requires no fuel (not gasoline, diesel, solar, hydrogen, or wind. it will be fully self suficient and no oil company will hinder it's developement.
