California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has become a leader against greenhouse gas emissions in America. Schwarzenegger has signed an executive order for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2010 to less than those produced in 2000. The order includes using more energy from renewable resources such as wind, solar energy, geothermal power and biomass conversion.
On the eve of the Group of 8 summit in Scotland, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged the United States and other nations to combat global warming and vowed in an opinion piece in London's Independent newspaper to make California a leader in the effort.

Schwarzenegger never mentioned President Bush in the article, but his call for immediate action contrasts sharply with the administration's recommendation of only voluntary steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions on grounds that more aggressive efforts would hurt the American economy.

"The debate is over. We know the science. We see the threat posed by changes in our climate," Schwarzenegger wrote. "And we know the time for action is now.

I will have to applaud governor Schwarzenegger for stepping up and doing the right thing. With the United States being the biggest country to Contribute to green house gases I hope this sends a message to the rest of the country.

The plan includes reduced emissions of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. he also wants to increase the state's total solar output from about 101 megawatts to 3,000 megawatts by 2018.

Experts are saying if California reduces emissions by these goals, it would cut more greenhouse gases than Japan, France or the United Kingdom.
