"FRANKFURT: Astronomical costs for delivering hydrogen-powered cars and the network to run them mean clean vehicles are years away from competing against today's polluting rivals, even if oil prices stay at record highs."

Sorry to be a black cloud, but it's hard to always be the little ray of sunshine!

Not surprising really. The internal combustion engine may be with us for a long time to come.

It'll be interesting to see how far Iceland can take the "Hydrogen Economy". It think there will be some places where this becomes a reality, those with lots of renewable energy like hydro and thermal. The rest of us will probably never see it.

One thing the article doesn't mention is the trouble with maintenance of hydrogen cars.

It's a whole new technology so when it does start to become available finding a technician to fix it if there's a problem might be very hard. I don't know if anyone has seen the pain in the butt safety procedures and rules for working on hybrid cars the like the Toyota Prius, but if hydrogen is worse than that might be a major cost factor.

As it is now finding a non-dealer to fix a hybrid is hard and risky. Also there are no garuantees that the dealer you bought it from has the proper equipment and one or more qualified technicians.

Yeah, as with all new models, it'll have bugs galore.

How much will it cost to create filling stations for them, and how much petroleum will be used to do that? Never ending cycle.
