Can anyone point out to me, anything at all, about modern day "miracles"

Anything even, things you would consider to be a miracle.

Do you believe in such things?

This is my biggest gripe with relgion. The talk of miracles being performed etc. Yes if I witnessed something like that that is written in the bible perhaps I too would be a solid believer.

So where are the miracles?

Personal stories would be nice, but news stories too.

Thanks.

Personally, I think the modern day miracle is much more common than most people realize.

However, here are some of my own experiances.

My mother is an EMT, I believe that she is a natural psychic healer as well. One call that she went on was for a guy who was in a machinery accident. His raincoat got caught. He suffered massive injuries. A fractured spine (3 places), ruptured spleen, several cracked ribs, punctured lung, broken legs (yes both) and arms (yes, both). This guy should not even have been concious. Yet shortly after my mother arrived, he regained conciousness, maintained it all the way to the hospital. At the hospital, doctors gave him a very small chance of survival doing initial stabilization before sending him to the next hospital, better able to treat the massive trauma but warning the crew (EMT, crew member and driver) that the patient would possibly not survive the transfer despite all attempts to get him stable enough to move. Not only did he survive, he was still awake and alert upon arrival. Prognosis was not good. Permanant paralysis, dialysis, possible liver transplant. The guy made a full recovery. Four months later he was begining to walk. Within a year, he was walking with a cane.

My "skills" have been mostly with animals. I have a sheltie born with a heart condition. When I finally had the money to get the care for it he was about two years old. The cardiac specialist he was seeing did tests and determined he had a 12mm hole in his heart. He was shocked that he was still alive. He said that with a dog that had that size hole shouldn't have survived past 2-3 months. After his repair they were able to determine the damage to the heart which they warned would probably be pretty large due to the time/size. He had no heart damage. His life expectancy was to be 5-6 years. He celebrates his 9th birthday in August.

At 18 months old my brother was diagnosed with Liver cancer. He was placed on a transplant list and sent to a hospital three states away (the only one able to treat the really rare condition). He was given a 1/3 chance of survival. He just celebrated his 23rd birthday. And didn't need the transplant. They did an experimental surgery removing 2/3 of his liver.

Okay, long post I know, but just some of the miracles that do occur.

I would suspect that a large proportion of claims to be modern day 'miracles' will come within the medical sphere.
Could we include the studies which have shown that the power of prayer, by a large group of people, directed towards a sick person MAY, SOMEHOW, facilitate recovery.

Actually, studies I have read DO show a significant influence of prayer on the recovery of a person. BUT the other thing they show is that it doesn't seem to matter WHO the prayer is too. What god or what religion a person is doesn't seem to impact, just the action of prayer.

With these power of prayer things, I am reluctant to attribute any perceived benefits to 'God' as such. Who is to say that we cannot touch each other through the ether, so to speak.

Modern day miracle?

How about this one.....A Resurrection !

"The Miracle in Syria"

quote///In December 2004 a Saudi Arabian man, a Moslem, appeared before several new agencies to relate the following incredible event he experienced and which changed his life (this story appeared on TV, the Internet, radio, and was circulated in newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets throughout Saudi Arbia, Syria, Palestine, and evidently in all neighboring countries.

Miracles happen every day. Some we just don't notice as tragedy was averted by the miracle

The biggest miracle in my life is my son. He had a very traumatic birth. He was not alive when he was born(breech birth and the second twin, serious cord accident) He was in the NICU in pretty bad shape. I know there were churches all over the US praying for him. Probably my inlaws church praying the most intensely(as they are leaders in the church)

He pretty much developed normally until about 7.5 months when he wouldn't sit up. At 12m we had an MRI done. All of his white matter is damaged. All of it. From the MRI, he should not be able to walk, talk, feed himself, or do anything independently.

At 5.5, he is pretty normal. He does tend to walk on his left toe some and has tightness in that left leg. That is pretty much the extent of his problems. He does karate, rides horses, runs, plays, rides a razor scooter, a bike, plays baseballs ect;. Granted, he will never be a top athlete, but, neither was I!

I ask myself every day why I am so lucky. I believe that God gives us what we need to grow as people. Isn't what we want always, but the way that the awful things in life can change us for the positive can be a miracle in itself.

100% HOAX I reaks of racism and religious propganda.
So this guy supposedly was in front of news agencies, tell this story, and there are no pictures of him.
He stunned the whole middle east and forgot to leave his name then vanished in to obscurity?

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can fool the gullible all the time!

Lets see.....a few years back my father in law passed away.
He got sick and his last days were really unusual......he was seeing little men (what people call 'greys'and Orthodox Christianity know them as fallen angels'demons') this is known to happen when someone approaches or is approaching death ......see below.....
www.fatheralexander.org...

Anyway my father in law being sick for quite awhile (one yr and a few months) having the name Raphael I asked for prayers to be answered(as i'm sure others did also around him)and the next day in hospital on November the 8th my father in law passed away......so although it was a sad day for those that were alive.....it was kind of a happy day for the person that was doing the suffering ....
quote///
Commemarated on the 8th November,as well as Archangel Michael and Gabriel///Archangel Raphael is a merciful healer, sent by God to comfort the sick and the sorrowing.
From the Holy Scripture we know that Archangel Raphael expelled demons from a woman. And how many people there are nowadays who are possessed by demons….
Alas, both they and their relatives often turn for help to sorcerers who nowadays hide behind the pseudo-scientific name of “extrasensorics.” But will sorcerers, these servants of the devil, expel demons? Obviously not. The power to expel demons and heal those who are possessed by them belongs to the holy angels and particularly to Archangel Raphael. Let us ask him to intercede for us before the Lord, Giver of all good things....more on Angels....
www.holy-transfiguration.org...

And if someone here says that you cannot ask for prayers from Saints......
God "glorified those who glorify Him" (I Kings 2:30), that He is "wondrous in His saints" (Ps. 67:35)
St. James the Apostle says, "the prayer of a righteous man availeth much"(James 5:16), even as the Three Youths who prayed in the fiery furnace attest: "Cause not Thy mercy to depart from us for Abraham's sake, Thy beloved, for Isaac's sake, Thy servant, and for Israel's, Thy holy one" (Dan
3:34).
for the angel of the Lord appeared to Abimelich and counseled him to seek Abraham's prayers, saying: "He shall pray for thee and thou shalt live" (Gen. 20:7).
In celebrating the feast of a saint, it is God Who is always worshipped, the saint's contest and victory being the occasion for God to be worshipped. Indeed, He is worshipped and glorified in His saints; He "is wondrous in His saints" (Ps 67:35).
As He said, "I will dwell in them" (11 Cor.6:16) and, by grace and adoption, they shall be called gods (John 10:34-35).
God Himself has granted His saints their ministry of interceding on our behalf. I supplicate them and I am in communion with them, even after their death in the flesh, since this death, according to the Apostle, cannot separate us from the love of Christ which unites us. According
to the Lord's promise, they who believe in Him "shall never die... but are passed from death into life" (John 11:26, 5:24).

And having said that,
Let the Glory be to God .

Legaliser...I was actually waiting for a REACTION from someone at some time....No one has to believe the story........
I actually spoke to someone here at ATS to verify the story''MIRACLE AT SYRIA'' for me (not myself but to confirm it did happen and that it was on the news)who is suppose to be in IRAQ now and when they come back, hopefully I will get an answer from them.....

helen

The story is about a Muslim man who was cut up(murdered)into pieces, head chopped off, arms and legs and placed in a trunk of a car and later steps out informing the police that he was ''miraculously stiched by the Theotokos '' (Mother of God)....who did this on behalf of her Son Jesus Christ.....there is much more then this to what happened.......link below....police records and doctors have kept records of this story.....
www.pigizois.gr...

I would also like to say that the name of the monastary is Saydnaya.
In Syria this is the second most important Christian pilgrimage in the Middle East after Jerusalem, in terms of the number of visitors.
The increase in its importance and popularity is due to the numerous and unlimited miracles which occur upon the intercession of Mary, Our Lady, The Mother Of God - Theotokos.
Saydnaya contains an icon of The Virgin Mary and the child Jesus painted by St. Luke the Evangelist in the 1st century A.D. The Icon's name is "Shaghoura" which means "The Famous One"....in Arabic.

I'd also like more information about that one, Helen

In particular - a name would be helpful. Or the names of those involved with his treatment. If the police have a record of this man's claims - that doesn't really prove that his claims are true, correct? Simply that they've recorded his claims? Again, if the hospital has recorded his claims, this doesn't imply that his claims are true. Would also like to see more information on his actual medical condition.

Hi Tinkleflower/
The original article is in greek and the priest at Jerusalem speaks on the audio ....as well as documented in Greek......I did post this in another Forum at WOS'S site......

The Guys(bad guys) testified that they cut his head off and chopped him up.....The passer by from another vehicle saw the taxi as being conspicuous(asking if they needed help with the car.....see story) and seeing blood dripping from the boot of the taxi reported it to the police....Damascus SYRIA.......when the police arrived and oponed up the boot , the man steps out and showed the the fresh stiched up wounds.....this the hospital and the doctors testify to.......

The man's name has not been named......not so sure why but I know for a fact that in Saudi Arabia Christians are prosecuted.......and if a story about a Muslim man becoming a Christian gets out all the more to hush up the story........as I said,I did speak to someone from here at ATS who was going to Iraq and they told me that they will check out the story......
Other then that, I know as much as what I have read and heard...both in Greek and English........
If I get an update I will post it.....
I did however write a letter to 60 minutes and current affairs program(here in Australia)but no one gave me a reply........I guess it depends who runs the MEDIA.....what can I say?

i was talking to my christian friend about faith healing, she said that goes on everyday in africa and various other places. however, if there were i think there'd be less of an aids problem and famine problem.

there are people on this thread that say their mum is a healer and they really do believe it. however, unless you witness something then its impossible to believe.

modern day miracles are just a way of religion trying to still prove its right. i think they're trying a tad too hard and its having no effect. its nice to hear stories of people that should have died, yet didn't and somehow that's because of some miracle attributed to god. read up on faith healing, you'll find numerous accounts of parents witholding medicine from their children and their children have gone on to die. even in cases where the children are diabetic and insulin has been witheld by their parents because they really think a higher power will cure them, yet their kids die. i've read articles where a person has been to a faith healing rally, thrown their medicine away, proclaimed to their family over the phone they have been cured, only to then be found dead the next day in their hotel room.

one of my christian friends said faith healing is real and that one of her leaders at the church had a bad back and they had this little rally and he was cured. but then said he still have the bad back the next day. what the hell is that! that's not being cured. in the heat of the moment people think they can do anything, its mind over matter. if anything faith healing and modern day miracles are nothing but playing on the human emotions and mind.

There are MIRACLES of God and MIRACLES of the devil......
One is for the benefit of the soul....always benefiting the soul!
The other is the benefit of the devil.....to capture your imagination and to deceive all the elect of God.......for this the devil had planned since the beginning.....

It is said.......
"Let no one be found among you … who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord" (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

"Watch out that no one deceives you" (Mat. 24:4), because "many false prophets will appear and deceive many people" (Mat. 24:11), "perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible" (Mat. 24:24).
"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spirits, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God … I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people" (Leviticus 19:31, Lev. 20:6).

"Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.
Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord , and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you" (Deuteronomy 18:10-13).

"When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn" (Isaiah 8:19-20).

"All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by" (Isaiah 47:13-14).

"So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your interpreters of dreams, your mediums or your sorcerers who tell you, 'You will not serve the king of Babylon.' They prophesy lies to you that will only serve to remove you far from your lands; I will banish you and you will perish" (Jeremiah 27:9-10).

"The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired man a maniac" (Hosea 9:7).

"On that day every prophet will be ashamed of his prophetic vision. He will not put on a prophet's garment of hair in order to deceive" (Zechariah 13:4).

Lord Jesus Christ said about false prophets:

"Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. … Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" (Matthew 7:20-23).

"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters" (Matthew 12:30).
he prophecy of the Savior about the last times:

"For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. " (Matthew. 24:24-25).

Apostle John the Theologian:

"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1).

Apostle Paul:

"Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1:22-24).

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron" (1 Timothy 4:1-2).

About the antichrist:

"And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved" (2 Thessalonians 2:8-10).

Prophecies of the Apostle John about the time of the antichrist:

"He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.
And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.
Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed" (Revelation. 13:12-15).
"But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur" (Revelation. 19:20).

About the future capital of the world state (Babylon):

"The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride
will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's great men. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray. " (Revelation. 18:23).

Personally I dislike the term 'miracle' not only for it's religious connotations but because it implies something outside of human experience.

What Ariande does is a talent, one that she has worked hard to develop, and one that comes with it's own unique price.

The idea that these things originate outside of us is what has kept humanity from learning what it can really accomplish. We all have these talents, most of us simply choose not to accept them. A big part of that is that most people have a real problem with personal responsibility and that is a requirement once you have learned to do anything of this sort.

When people say 'Faith Healer' I cringe. Those sorts of people have absolutely no understanding of what they are doing. They do not study properly and simply rely on 'god' or whoever to make sure things go as they are supposed to. There are many unintended side-effects from this lack of knowledge and people get hurt.

Ariande knows what she is doing, her basis for her work is logical and comprehensive. Her I trust and not just because I married her, but because she treats it like any other skill and keeps learning to do it better.

There's an older thread about miracles. Give it a look.

I have seen a woman walk in front of a speeding car, I heard a loud bump, everybody around me did, including the woman herself and the driver of the car (he also felt the "bump"). But there was nothing on the street, and the woman - AS I was looking on - was somehow standing on the sidewalk again. I never saw her jump back, she said she never jumped back, and she wouldn't have time to do so any way. And the car didn't have any dents or any trace of the bump we all heard (and the driver felt).
I don't know what that was, but it wasn't "normal".
Is there a media account about it? I don't know. But I know what I saw, and that woman and the driver are still today convinced it was some sort of miracle.
Whatever it was, it was NOT "normal".
