Are there signs or something telling tourists not to touch any of the rocks?

Not really but if you ask some people they will tell you not to because its bad luck!

Well I was christian at the time, and refused to believe in pagan deities and superstition.
All it took was some blood, pain and the near death of a brother to change my mind, had
alot to do with the way it happened to, you know, stone in pocket and SLAM! body on the ground.
Other people get off the island before terrible things happened to them.

If you visit the islands you will see bundles wrapped in tea leaves, that is how
people must return the stones if they've left the island with them.

I try to remain skeptical, but doubt I would tempt Pele to bust me up again!

Will all of this brutality continue if you do not return the stones?

Thats the legend, yep.
Pele's been working hard making those islands for who knows how long, she
gets all uppity when you remove even a little bit.

I'm not of Hawaiian descent, but I grew up in Hawaii. Growing up I was told that if you encounter the nightmarchers, you should lay down on the ground with your face to the ground. I can't remember if you should be naked or not. Here's another pic of Pele

That is quite an amazing picture, seeing entities in smoke are some of the most pleasing experiences.
