Could this be so? Wouldn't surprise me, as he is a hardliner.
Kinda makes sense of the statement, that he is no friend of democracy.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- A quarter-century after their 444-day ordeal at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, several former hostages say Iran's hardline president-elect, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was one of their captors.

"As soon as I saw the face, it rang a lot of bells to me," Don Sharer, of Bedford, Indiana, told CNN. He had served as the embassy's naval attache when the hostage-taking occurred.

Rowhani, the aide to Ahmadinejad, said Ahmadinejad said during the recent meeting that he stopped opposing the embassy seizure after the revolution's leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, expressed support for it. But the president-elect said he never took part.

"Definitely he was not among the students who took part in the seizure," said Abbas Abdi, the leader of the hostage-takers. Abdi has since become a leading supporter of reform and sharply opposed Ahmadinejad. "He was not part of us. He played no role in the seizure, let alone being responsible for security" for the students.

Another of the hostage-takers, Bijan Adibi, said Ahmadinejad "was not involved. There was no one by that name among the students who took part in the U.S. Embassy seizure."

not all the hostage takers are hardliners, even today those former hostage takers are against the new Iranian leader.

this topic will test the hypocrisy on this board. If this was an american politician, you'd have to merge all the threads from all of the hysterical posts calling for his removal from office.

An Iranian ? barely a blip on the radar....

Hey, so he did a little silly thing when he was young; does that mean he'll be a bad leader?

delta, this guy is an hardliner, and he was an hostage-taker. What's worse, he's predisposed to think that the U.S. will roll over and wet on herself, thanks to the Carter administration.
