Prime Minister Paul Martin has lost a cabinet minister over the controversial same-sex marriage issue.

Joe Comuzzi, minister of state for northern Ontario's economic development, has told the prime minister he will resign.

Comuzzi will side against the federal government's same-sex marriage bill in a landmark vote later today.

The 71-year-old asked to meet with Martin and broke the news to the prime minister in his Parliament Hill office just hours before the vote.

This is a case of reversal for the liberals, as now they have lost a member before a critical vote instead of gaining one. It seems their own government cannot agree. They seem to be lucky, only losing one to the controversy.
