The supreme court just decided that individuals in the United States no longer own land. They're simply renting it from the government through paying taxes, and the government has the right to negate that rental contract at any time it wishes.

Essensially, all land in the US was just made public. Special laws exist for people who are renting the government's land from them to build a house on providing exceptions to the public land law, but by the government being able to take it at any time by simply stating "progress" makes it inherrantly public, not private.

This is step one, loss of all ownership. It's putting us on course with socialism, not capitalism. Now, travel with me a few years down the road, after the outrage at this decision dies down and people accept it (it happens; when was the last time you heard a news commentator talk about the patriot act?). Actually, I'll get to the point and see what scenarios you think would have to take place to make this happen. I don't really believe it will, but the possibility is there.

Since all land is now public, where does that leave religious landmarks and houses of worship? Currently the ACLU is waging a crusade to remove all of America's history if it pertains to anything Christian; do you think they wouldn't take this opportunity to try to remove Christianity even more? The current cry is no religious anything on public land, but now all land is public land. What could happen over the next few years which would put the ACLU and groups like it in a position to restrict houses of worship, and what could happen to prevent this from happening?

I actually think just the opposite is happening. The government wants everyone totally involved in religion so they don't notice how the Constitution is slowly fading away.

It's awful hard for me to see how the recent actions by the government could be anything but a concerted plan to eliminate our rights and give power and absolute control to the state.

Is it Al Qaeda who are terrorists, or BushCo?

That question is moot since it was the Supreme Court, where none of the justices sitting were placed by BushCo. I am curious as to what is leading you to believe just the opposite, though. It's human nature to observe your own standpoint as being oppressed while the other standpoint flourishes, even if it's not true. That being the case, I may just not be seeing what it is you are, and would be very interested to know where you're coming from.

I thought it was just for California?

I'm 99% sure we don't have that in Michigan.

Either way, the people won't stand for it and it will get amended or eventually thrown out because it's beyond unconstitutional and beyond the American beliefs re owning private property.

As if Eminent Domain was bad enough... Look what happened to those poor folks in California, they were kicked out from their homes so a Wal Mart could be built in their subdivision.

I don't even think they got compensated.
