The pagan sabbat of Yule is celebrated on either December 20th, 21st, or 22nd., and has been dated back 5000 years. The word "Yule" itself is of Scandanavian origin meaning "wheel", as in the wheel of the year, change of seasons, etc. The people would burn an oak Yule log in honor of Thor, the Teutonic god of fire and courage, in hopes that by doing so it would encourage him to bring back the sun, as opposed to the dark and cold of winter.

I always thought those support our troop magnents (possibly made in China) were tacky. If you really want to support your troops go down to the airport on a Saturday or Sunday and tell the manager there you would like to give rides to troops needing a ride to the base.
