Moon object videotaped in California, June 17, 2005

Nice video of something maybe sattelite maybe not.What do you think?

Date: June 17th, 2005
Time: approximately 7:20pm.
Wind/Weather: blowing from the East/NorthEast, mild clouds behind me in the
North.
Object: Oval or Eggshapped.
Duration: Approximately 3-4 seconds.
Color: Dark with slight sun reflection off the top.
Size: Unknown with no comparitive to judge against.
Distance: 10-13 miles (guessing).
Object's Location: 45' arc to the Southern horizon.
Trajectory: UP and slightly to the West/SouthWest.
Speed: Unknown, but not very fast, as a jet in the same POV would've
travelled 3X the speed.
Witnesses: One, the cameraperson.
CameraPerson's Location: 70 miles East of San Francisco.
Equipment: Sony DCR-TRV720 Digital8 format, Fluidhead tripod, 2x Optical
Tele-Convertor

I too thought I saw something hovering around the moon on the 17th and got the camera out and took this video.

I did'nt capture anything on video but I was sure I saw something.

I would think it's too uniformly spherical to be a satellite. It does look like it could be a small meteor, though.

Those, are called airplanes or satellites, maybe you've heard of them. They have lights that blink nowadays.

I think it's a satellite though.
The lights are probably specular reflections off the solar panels..

In the close up, just before the object goes out of frame, it appears to be tumbling. The shape seems to be more of a satellite, or spent fuel tank.

If it is a satellite, could you predict it's orbit, and film it again?

This one I'd have to call a balloon.

Too much detail at 2X zoom to be an extremely high altitude object; you'd need better magnification than that to see the ISS and that's in LEO. A comet, meteor or satellite low enough to show that much detail at 2X would be burning its way through the atmosphere, especially if it were large enough to see.

The file data give the POV as "70 miles Esat of San Francisco" and I believe the winds wer blowing to the E/SE? Given that there was no point of reference by which to establish the actual size of the object , or its altitude and given its apparently symmetrical shape and relectivity I'd say a balloon from the Bay.

Satellites do reflect sunlight like that from the solar panels called iridium flares. Many are mistaken for being UFO's. The flight path and flares in your area can be predicted with software programs. But I agree it looks like it is tumbling or something. Also the direction should be more horizontal I would think for a satellite, but I'm no expert.
