Because breaking-up is hard to do

I want to see if there are others here who will share their best breaking-up poems and stories. I have a couple break-up poems, so I'll start with this one.


Animosity

I don't want your animosity or your pity, babe.
I don't want you to think I'm bad.
I don't want to be mis-treated,
Ooh, its making me feel so sad.

Won't you,
Let me roll with your changes,
Let me see you trust your heart.
Every love re-arranges,
We don't have to tear our worlds apart.

You think I let you down,
But I still love you, babe.
Maybe it doesn't mean that much to you.
You don't have to try and punish me,
And I don't have to feel so blue.

Can't we
Let it go, be forgotten,
All the anger and stiff pride.
Help to mend what we've broken,
And let our tears of sorrow dry.

I can let you go if I have to,
But I still want to be your friend.
I know you better than you say I do,
And I just want you to understand;

That I
Never meant just to use you,
Or leave you nothing for your charms.
I only wanted to hold you,
And keep you safe in my strong arms.

Anti-Valentine

I'm shocked by the way
You've chosen to say
You don't want my love anymore
I catch you alone
I can tell by your tone
That talking to me is a chore

For me there's no choice
You tune out my voice
The words I speak fall on deaf ears
My image is stained
So all that I've gained
Is something your heart never hears

I know that I've lacked
A composure uncracked
We all have our flaws and our strengths
My sadness I cloaked
On self-pity I choked
But with you I have gone to great lengths

And now that I find
My own peace of mind
Yours I've unsettled, I learn
I've committed a crime
So I'll do my time
And hope someday love will return.

Just saw this post before I had to leave, I dont have any breaking up poems... but i think i have some things that might relate. Ill be sure to post as soon as i get another chance on the comp

I remember when I broke up, and these poems really brought back all the memories. I just wish I was able to write like you can!

If only my decision making skills were as good as you say my poetry writing skills are!

Writing is a great relief and release exercise. Letting it flow in rhyme can be especially challenging and rewarding. I just pick a voice, an experience, and an angle, and see what comes of it.
