Anyone have any information or links about if anyone has ever been shot, or never seen from again from trying to get into Area 51? Don't know if this thread has been made already. If so, very sorry. Just never hear any reports of crazy people trying to bust into Area 51, which I'm sure has happened before at some time...

This has been asked several times, as can be imagined. Basically, no one has ever heard of anyone being shot or disappearing while trespassing on that area of land. The general consensus is that somebody would likely be merely arrested for trespassing for attempting such a move.

My old ex-military boss spoke of a couple of his drunk soldier friends being shot for entering a restricted part of a South Korean base.

And they were soldiers!

I wouldn't push your luck - from the way he described it - they are just looking for a little target practice, and they have full authority to use deadly force!

Now - if you are just barely inside the perimitor without climbing any fences or walls, likely you'll just be arrested or escorted forcefully away from the area.

Either way - doesn't seem worth it to me!

BTW - the soldiers shot were not returned to duty - the were put in military prison and then dishonarably discharged.

Well, the truth is any country in the world provides their military with the authority to do anything necessary to protect itself from a breach that would compromise national security.

I believe you would encounter the same reactions from the military if you tried to break into any facility that is not open to the public.

If a person seemed lost or was just an idiot they would likely get arrested for trespassing. If the person was spotted in a camo suit with a gun trying to break in they'd likely be shot. It all depends on the type of threat you seem to pose.

I have encountered stories of people that were attempting to get into restricted areas and have been detained. I have not, however, heard any such stories about anyone getting shot, although I have to believe that anyone on a fact finding mission of sorts would be wise enough not to do it in a way that would put them on the receiving end of military fire.

If there is such a story it's news to me and would sure be an interesting read.

I've been shot at before in Long Beach, California. By some gangsters probably doing an intiation. They emptied the clip at me and my friend. It looked and sounded like a .22 caliber pistol. Neither of us were hit.

While I was on the ground my friend was standing there like an idiot as bullets wizz past me and him. "What's going on??" he asks. It lasted couple of seconds. Then I yelled "They just shot at us!" so I grab him by the arm and we take off running like hell!

That's one thing that in all of my research that I have not heard with definate certainty. I have heard that they can take action that can include deadly force and so on to get you off of the compound. It would be best to just assume that they would arrest and detain you until the cops come to take your happy self to jail if you attempted to infiltrate something like a military base. I'm not gonna test this one.

So you said you lied down - doesn't that make you more of a stationary target for them - or was it behind something?

I've played paintball a few times - but I've never faced real live fire.

Whats the best advice when faced with that situation?

(i.e. increase distance, run past shooter, lie down, etc...)

Also does anyone know of a class or book that could better train one in how to best avoid being hit?

(I enjoyed the movie Equilibrium where agents were supposedly taugh a Gun Kata martial art that allowed them to avoid bullets using unusual stances that reduced the probability of being in an untrained shooters bullet path.)

I think you'd just get arrested for trespassing if you walked onto the bases or climbed a fence. However if you resisted arrest or tried an alternative method of entry such as smashing thru a guard gate with a truck, well then your chances of getting killed go way way way up!!!!

By the way, what if you tried building your own UAV out of a remote controlled model aircraft and a wireless nanny cam and flew it over the hangers at A-51? What do you think the penalty for that is? Espionage? Trespassing? Just curious.

I'm sure you'd end up in Cuba for that - but also, many military installations employ jamming technology to avoid such a threat.

Now there is a possible way to counter this - but - you have to think outside of the norm to see it.

I do know of some one that got stupid. They pick him up firearms pointed. Nothing spoken until you are taken to the base at Indian Springs( which you can see from the hiway) "debriefed" for 72 hours solid with no sleep. Then you are turned over to the L.V. Metro police which is where the legal fun begins. My stupid friend got 6 mon. $15,000 fine. Needless to say he lost his job, apartment, car repoed. Cant pay the bills in jail you know.

Due to the large distance between inner area and outer perimeter the need to use lethal force is not an option.Tazers are used for close target detention.Weapons are only used to show and deter potential trespassers.If somebody was to be killed by a guard that would cause too much public interest in what could be at that site that would require lethal force.Cover ups only work when not used often.Even if you managed to pentrate the inner area chances are you wouldn`t get into the building themselves so unless you want to look at standard military installation buildings no point getting arrested.I doubt walking around an Alien gonna come out of a building for a break.

Yeah, I agree with weirdo, I doubt the need to use lethal force would really arise for the security guys. They have alot of technology, manpower, trucks, and helicopters not to mention that you have a heck of a long walk from the parimeter to the base it's self. Supposing you elude capture all the way upto the buildings I doubt anything "really" exciting is out in the open.

Like I said before, ram the gates with a truck or take a guard hostage and you might get shot otherwise a good beating LAPD/Rodney King style is the worst you're gonna get as far as physical harm.

Did anyone see that documentary on A-51 where the guy that picked the ground sensor up had his house searched and computers siezed by the Joint Terrorism Task Force? That is most likely the worst thing that would happen to you, a good scare by para-military security guards, then your house searched, then get thrown in jail and fined worse then a dude who kills a nun in a DUI accident.

I work several years inside a secure facility on US Air Force SAC base. I remember these words being repeatly told to me. If you are caught in a restricted area, then you are in trouble. If you get caught pass the point of no return, a yellow line on that air base; then you are dead. The rules of engagement was shoot to kill.

The facility we worked in was a US Army storage facility. We were always armed while inside that facility. I remember the US Air Force Security Police were not allow inside it without permission and an escort.

We did have three members of green peace get on to the air field. They made it up to a B-52G hanger where the dogs finally chased them down. That maintence hanger was outside the yellow line. I believe I would rather be shot than have a Shepard eating me.

I do remember are standing orders were to shoot anyone not on our access list that violated our facility.

Weirdo's right, if you get in you won't be able to get in the secure areas of the buildings, it is not like they would leave the lab doors unlocked. It is a bad idea.

Where I live a late night taco run, could turn into a shootout. Here is what the homeboys do when being shot at (I saw this rather recently unfortunately):

First: Drop to a crouch (I guess the shooter is probably aiming at your head/chest, so if you are lower then the next shot will go over your head)

Then: Run like heck. Most gang bangers are not very good shots anyway, always hitting kids and whatnot. Plus they usually carry terrible low caliber guns that can't shoot straight anyway. I guess you should look for a building to hide behind, or at least a car. If you have your gun, then once under cover you return fire.

None of the homeboys got shot this time, they didn't get me or my car either. (No more late night taco runs for me).

However, if you are up against professionals, they are probably better shots, and have rifles, which are more accurate.

I have heard that you should run in irregular zig zags (from Worst Case Scenario Handbook). This would make you harder to hit, it would also slow you down.

However, if you are stubborn enough to go on the military base, they would be able to run you down and cut you off, so you might as well put your hands up and go into custody.

That being said, I heard from a buddy that he was on a naval weapons station one night, getting drunk with the commander's daughter, when some Navy Seals got drunk, took over the command center of the base, and tied up the commander. I am so surprised that this wasn't leaked, but then they have missiles at the facility, so I can imagine they kept it low key. I asked my buddy "HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE????" He said it was because they were navy seals, so they had inside info, plus their training was that good.

This was about 15 years ago, so I assume that those navy seals are still in the brig. Don't try this at home.

Thanks for the advice - that all makes good sense - and jives well with what my father in law told me this weekend.

He wasn't sure how a crouch/prone position could help you, but your explaination makes it clear how this could be advantageous.

I've always lived in the suburbs of big cities - but never on either coast - and the closest I've been to a drive by is in GTA:SA.

I have one question for you and the others here tho - if a social environment has degraded that bad - why stay in it - surely there is ample opportunity elsewhere.

Or conversely, why not clear out gang areas with mercenaries so as to regain civil order in a region?

I'm not saying either solution is morally great - I'm just curious...
