Now For The Hard Part
The members of ATS have selected councilors to represent them, or, more correctly,
us.
After all the ticker tape is swept away, all that matters is if we succeed at that.
Congratulations and condolences to the new councilors.
This promises to be a tough job, and I “council” patience for both members and councilors alike as we figure out just what the bloody hell we can
do to help ATS -- and how not to make things worse with our best of intentions.
To those not elected, I urge you to remember that this was not a vote for “who's best” or even “who's qualified”. This was not a referendum
on anyone's worth as a member or a person.
A plurality of our fellow members have chosen us for this job, and that's
all this means.
Now it's up to those of us who were chosen for the Council to prove -- or disprove -- the wisdom of these choices.
Here's hoping we don't royally blow it.
Who Says We Can't Have Some Fun With This?
That said, I can now unveil my deviously double-edged and thematic avatar:
Tasteless and perhaps a bit disturbing, I know, but the messages it contains are for all of us (including me).
Remember what happens when we don't hold representatives to account.
Remember that the purpose of every councilor is to serve our fellow members.
If we start getting grand ideas and caught up with the trappings of office, we will fail our fellow members, as well as ourselves.
Don't fall prey to the Dark Side of ATS politics.
P.S. The “Empire” logo is my adopted unofficial logo for DISC. I like multiple entendres.
