Clementina Cantoni, a 32 year-old Italian aid worker, has been freed by her captors after more than three weeks. On May 16th, while being driven to her home in Kabul, Cantoni was abducted by a group of four armed men. She is said to be in good health, and has spoken with her family.

An Italian aid worker held hostage for more than three weeks in Afghanistan has been released in good health, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.

Clementina Cantoni, 32, was safe at the Interior Ministry and has spoken to her mother by telephone, Interior Ministry spokesman Latfullah Mashal told The Associated Press.

Cantoni "is in good health, given the 24-day ordeal she went through," he said later at a news conference.

No ransom was paid and no concessions were given to her kidnappers, he said.

It is truly a pleasure to see one of these kidnappings end on a positive note. Clementina Cantoni's family must have been overjoyed to finally speak with her. A big thumbs up to all of the Afghani and Italian people who worked so hard to make this happen.
