The September 9, 2004 bombing of the Australian embassy in the Indonesian capital was funded with Australian currency, a Jakarta court heard last
Tuesday. Ahmad Hasan, a witness and defendant in the ongoing trial stated that the suspected mastermind of the bombing, Noordin M Top, gave him
AUD$9700 to change into Indonesian currency to fund the operation. Noordin M Top, a.k.a Khalid, is still at large.
It was not clear where the money came from or why it was in Australian dollars.
Hasan said another Malaysian, Azahari, accused by police of masterminding the blast that killed 10 people on September 9, ordered him and the
defendant on trial, identified as Rois, to scout out the embassy site and drive the explosives-laden van into Jakarta.
Azahari also gave them explosives to blow themselves up if they were caught, Hasan said.
"The Australian embassy always helps Indonesia too much against terrorists and to capture the holy fighters," he said.

This is interesting. There are a few possible explanations:
* The money was stolen from Australian tourists or businesses in Indonesia.
* The money was sourced from a terrorist cell in Australia.
...and out on a limb...
* The money was given to Khalid as a false flag operation by Australian intelligence.
Somehow all of these recent events between Australian and Indonesia seem too structured and well-timed for my paranoid mind.
