HNC & HND Diploma

For those of you, who are knowledgeable in both UK & USA (or Canada, even better for me) school system, can you tell me in what the HNC & HND diploma are equivalent to (please a fair assessment, no bragging).

If you can tell me, what is the % of time spend in class & the % spend in industry, and how many hours total, are we talking about here, that will allow me to better compare it with what I know.
