This just isn't funny... The French pilots would have crashed if not for the civillian airport. Why were these pilots not given clearance to land at a fully operational military base which was 100% ready... They were there for an exercise with the US navy... shows just how much you can trust the US..

er, because procedure dictates

All aircraft under all DoD/Military Installations have a special landing permit number...Any aircraft not having this special landing permit number at any particular FAA Owned Airport/DoD Installation will not have the go-ahead to land if their situation doesn't fit certain emergency criteria...if the emergency wasn't life or death, which it wasn't, then landing at a DoD/Military would be the last possible place for such aircraft to land.

Geez, did you bother reading?

The jets do not belong to the US Air Force, US Navy or US Marine Corps, they were not scheduled to land at that air-base and they had (presumably) filed no flight plans to land at ANY US airport.

Therefore they were given permission to land at a civilian installation, where they couldn't possibly breach US military security.

The French are not mutual-defence allies of the US. They withdrew from NATO and SEATO was dissolved.

When in South Australia, RSAF F-16s are seen at Adelaide International Airport, not RAAF Edinburgh.

Those french officiers were probably looking for a way to hit the casinos.
I wonder how much they lost?

They would be quite a site at the blackjack tables in their flight suits!

Maybe the conversation with McGuire went something like this:

McGuire ATC:
Allo! Who is eet?
French Squadron Leader:
This is the flight leader of the first air squadron from the French carrier de Gaulle. What airfield is this?
McGuire ATC:
This is the airfield of my master, President Busch.
French Squadron Leader:
Well tell him that we require permission to land and refuel so we can find our carrier.
McGuire ATC:
Well, I'll ask him, but I don't think he'll be very keen. Uh, he's already got one, you see.
French Squadron Leader:
What?
French Wingman:
He says they've already got one!
French Squadron Leader:
Are you sure he's got one?
McGuire ATC:
Oh, yes. It's very nice-a. (I told him we already got one.)
McGuire ATC:
[chuckling]
French Squadron Leader:
Well, u-- um, can we land and have a look?
McGuire ATC:
Of course not! You are French types-a!
French Squadron Leader:
Well, what are you, then?
McGuire ATC:
I'm American! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly Pilot-a?!
French Wingman:
What are you doing with a French aircraft carrier?
McGuire ATC:
Mind your own business!
French Squadron Leader:
If you will not allow us to land, we shall land by force!
McGuire ATC:
You don't frighten us, French pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottom, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, and all your silly French Pilllllots. Thpppppt! Thppt! Thppt!
French Wingman:
What a strange person.
French Squadron Leader:
Now look here, my good man--
McGuire ATC:
I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
French Wingman:
Is there someone else down there we could talk to?
McGuire ATC:
No. Now, go away, or I shall taunt you a second time-a!
[sniff]

Bad weather? HAH. It was more likely they heard France was being invaded and they simply chose to surrender once again. If you are ever in the market to buy a used military weapon buy a French, they've never been fired.
