silver surfer it is not only possible but has already been done... Several manufacturers make noise cancellation ear muffs some of which are even sophisticated enough to only cancel damagingly loud sounds. While allowing things like voices to be heard normally.

Yeah Bose makes a nice noise-cancelling headset. My math teacher brought in a pair last year and everything was really silent. Great for long plane rides.

My invention would be a new type of battery. It would be extremely energy dense and could greatly increase the life of anything from MP3 players to hybrid cars. Now, were's the old chemistry book?

Light Saber hehe. I have always wanted one, too bad it will prolly never happen heh

I have been thinking about this for a while, would it be possible to create a device that analyze a soundwave and then sends out a mirror soundwave and they somehow cansel each other out, would be great for things that produces unwanted sounds, tractors, lawnmovers etc..

I think they probably use Destructive Interference to pull this off. Basically they get sound waves of certain frequencies to cancel each other out so that you don't hear them. (If it turns out that isn't what they do, well, maybe you can invent something that does use this principle!)

Id like to make a device that beams all of your utilities to your home, except water of course.

Yes but if you put the device onto the motor, gas pipe or whatever makes the worst noise and cansel it at the source, would be great for not getting awaked by the lawnmover outside

think like those really big tractors or trucks and things swirling by with almost no sound.. maybe a bit dangerous if all the sound get canseld but hey only the worst would be good enough, think of all places they make noise walls for cars, would not be necesary with something like this.

the sad thing is mand will probably make some of these things and end up destroying the planet. Let's tap the ocean and drain off the salt so that people can use the water up and turn us into Mars.

lets create higher density energy storage and deploy more electrical interference into the already fragile enviroment and screw up more animals.

let make a light saber (although I think this one is going to be hard, unless we use ionized plasma) and have a society full of limbless people and go back to the medievil art form of sword play in war. Killing off thousands of people because of ego duals.

Man is his own destructive agent, even though you think giving the ability to drain the ocean to give water to the famished is a good idea the end result is bad for everyone. Maybe not in your lifetime or childrens lifetime, but water is not a replenishable, come from the depth type of stuff. It is finite in its total volume on this planet and when it is consumed it along with all the other life is done for.

Unlike oil which man does not require nor the planets for the animals nor the fish in the sea to survive. Sure at the level of comfort we have today we would be impacted by not having oil, but man is smarter, we have other ways to produce energy if required to do so. The best thing that could happen to this planet is for the US to run out of oil. Which will finally kick the tech and energy in the butt to start implementing advanced technology energy source, that are not only clean and enviromentally friendly but produce over 100 times the total system efficeincy over using refined pertroluem turned to gas. (this inlcudes cost and consumption for the entire chain required to process oil into gas vs the higher yielding hydrogen fuel cell or other materials)

the number one thing I wish would be invented is a way to neutralize ionic radiation contaimination. It seems us humans have painted ourselves into a corner with no way out. Once we release radioactive elements either by accident or war etc. That we have yet to develop a way to safely remove the radioactive elements from the enviroment, leaving them to remain hot and emit harmful rays to eventually kill off all the surrounding life.

Man should take responsibility since he developed nuclear weapons to also figure out a way to remove their affects to the enviroment. This would be the ultimate counter nuclear strategy. If one nation could neutralize the affects of a nuclear weapon other then the blast damage then their nation could still survive to rebuild.

A dangerous concept.....

I want a shower like they had on the Jetsons. You step into a closed room and you're zapped clean in a matter of seconds.

1 Catalytic enzyme [circuit] boards that use simple molecules and create whatever organic chemical you want by programming it.

A factory version will orbit Jupiter and scoop up some of the atmosphere and then process it into food. This will make the colonization of space practical. It could crank out sugars, starches, and proteins, with a certain amount of vitamins, micronutrients and flavors.

Also a small handheld unit that you could use to produce whatever pharmacological chemical you needed [or wanted] or used to produce a small amount of food in an emergency.

2 spin foam booties. That grip the fabric of space itself. The grip can be turned on and off, so you can run in space and then turn the grip off and fly in space. Loads of fun for kids and adults, freefall gymnastics. You could even walk up the sky to get into space.

If they gripped the fabric of space then you would be instantly killed. Remember that the Earth is moving at thousands of miles per hour around the Sun. And our Solar System is moving in an orbit around the center of the Galaxy. Finally, the Galaxy is speeding away from the center of the universe. So once you nail yourself down to one point in the universe, there is no chance for survival.

To make a comparison, imagine riding in a train. For some reason, you decide to go on the roof. But oh no, there's a tunnel approaching! You are killed because of the impact (80 MPH). Now imagine an impact of 50,000 MPH.

Sorry to kill your idea. Your food generating one sounds interesting. However, we are far from being able to create any molecule at will.

A translation device, that could be either worn, or inserted in your body...which allows you to understand hundreds of languages.

I don't know exactly how it would work, but that's the idea.

There is no absolute movement in space, it is all relative [to something else]. Just as there is no absolute length or time.

The spinfoam probably just floats and expands along with the rest of the Universe. It would be more like picking up some stray, speculative mass temporarily, then letting it evaporate.

What do you guys think is it even possible or would i end up with twice the sound
?

Not only is it already being used in air conditioners but also in stereo headsets and the Government has been using this effect to quiet down stealth helicopter's noisy rotors (only works below the craft though) .

How about automobiles that use a tank type tread. It would reduce road wear, increase friction, and be more controllable for the driver.
Although a quick stop may prove very painful.

Or maybe Viagra that increases intelligence... Then give it to teenagers.
Maybe they would think before they poke.

Maybe....A Gold magnet. I could put away my metal detector and maybe make some money around here.

Find a cheap method to desalinate sea water...break the sodium cloride down...use the sodium for a heat fuel source...uuuuuhhh.. what to do with bunches of chloride...(Never mind!)

oh man.
obviously, free and limitless energy. x-ray specs. time machine. and of course a space craft able to travel anywhere and everywhere. oh oh and a camera that can withstand a black hole.

Okay, I got a serious plausable idea now. Anyone may steal (have) it if they want. Good luck with those inventors help lines.

A large porous roller on a stick. Basically an upside down T. A water hose or line would connect to the back of the handle and feed water into the porous roller (filled with steel wool or something to slow and spread the flow). The practical application for this would be for putting out grass fires. The fire department and/or hicks could use this.

If you have ever had to put out a multi-acre grass fire, you can see the applications for this. I have twice, and a wet towel and a pickle bucket full of water work far better than a water hose. Its what originally made me think of this.

P.S. If anyone makes some, please send me and your local fire department one. Those guys are life savers.
