One soldier has died and another four injured when their convoy was attacked in the southeastern Iraqi town of Amarah. He was the 50th British serviceman to die in Iraq since the US-lad invasion in March 2003.

The troops were on their way to a planned meeting with Iraqi security forces when they were attacked.

The attack came as Iraq's new government launched its biggest crackdown yet on insurgents in Baghdad.

It follows a wave of attacks by guerillas in the past month in which more than 600 people have been killed.

How many more people must die before the insurgents in Iraq realise they are not going to win?

They are just holding their own country back and the longer they carry on attacking the coalition forces the longer we will stay in Iraq!

The insurgents dont even deserve to be alive and the major offenxive that has begun against them can only be a good thing!

It's easy to say that the insurgents should just give up, but they've already been beaten to the point that I'm sure they don't care anymore.

There are not too many things more humiliating than having your nation invaded and conquered. If you've ever had your car or home broken into then you know what I mean. Just magnify it by 1 million. It doesn't matter if your car or home is a dump, it is the principle. The same thing with someone's nation, country, region, etc.... No matter how bad it, it is still humiliating to be invaded - especially by people with differing cultural and moral outlooks.

It's also easy to say that the invasion is meant to help, but the invasion forces haven't exactly done a great job in winning the hearts and minds of the people. It's not hard to see why the insurgents are still trying.

Probably is, but this will be the 50th to die in hostile action. The other 38 died from "other" causes, including natural, accidents and the now obligatory American "Blue-on-Blue" they seem to love so much.

They'll never realize this for as long as any outside media recognizes the gangsters' accomplishments and western idle rich continue to support their cause.

between partisan politics and the multi-generational wealthy who need to believe they have control over something, and the Hollywood types with the monster egoes who assume their beliefs sould be the entire world's beliefs, "insurgency" worldwide against western interests will never end.

Especially while there are people at the top who pull the strings and pay the bills.

Phugedaboudet isn't that the reason insurgents and terrorist do what they do... to show how oppresive governments are and how badly they treat their people?

1. Unhappy people form a group
2. Unhappy people blow up happy peoples stuff
3. Happy people complain about what the unhappy people do
4. the peoples government restricts peoples freedom so that unhappy people cannot destroy happy peoples stuff
5. Happy people dont like losing some of thier freedom, but they will do it as part of thier job as happy people
6. Unhappy people point out how oppresive peoples government is
7. Go to step 2

It would take censorship of the media to accomplsih it, but the media should not be allowed to give any credit to those that performed the attacks. Dont give them any free advertising, and they soon go away
