Because that is obvious...but as with the Germans, they could have stopped fighting.

They could have shuffled about, surrendering to the enemy when they came about (soldiers and civilians wherever the war was at), but no, they persisted relentlessly, to the point of suicide rather than surrender.

In Germany at least the war was over compared to the Japanese, after Bulge.

Fighting at Ramagen, and Haguenau, but it was really uncomparable to the relentless suicidal fighting being engaged by the Japanese people.

The Germans were beaten before they surrendered, but because of that, they were not devastated...meanwhile Japs were not beaten even after they surrendered.

Many of which would rather not have surrendered.

After Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japanese civilians and hospital workers especially, were still convinced they should fight to the death, the surrender on Indianapolis was completely a shock.
