BURMA's Opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) marked a bleak anniversary today, 15 years after its never-recognised election victory, with party leader Aung San Suu Kyi still under house arrest.

Link

The party won 392 of 485 contested seats in the 1990 elections, considered free and fair by the international community, but the junta has never allowed the winners to take office

This should have never happened is the world looking the other way ??

A very sad anniversary indeed. And from the looks of the government not going to change anytime soon. I belive May 2003 was the last public apperance she made and even then she and her party supporters were attacked. And with some of her old party members are negotiating with the military and undermining her and the cause. I completely agree with you about the world looking the other way. Burma and many issues in this region and others that don't get even a speck of headlines and are hardly remembered or even recognized by the media. Great post by brining up a little talked about topic.
