politricks???

are these "elections" really vital to ATS???

do we really need the candidates to say: "vote for me" all day???

i wonder what politricks they will use...

let me guess...

they will use their popularity to win...

hmmm...

this sounds like america...

and we know that no country likes us

Don't know, perhap's don't understand what your point is. When we enter we want to win and I think popularity is the winning factor - yes?

Tricks Or Treats?

I come to ATS to get away from politics, but they seem to follow me here like a mangy cur that won't go away.

Ironically enough, now I'm a nominee for an ATS political position, and I have some serious mixed feelings about that, as I have expounded at length elsewhere. I'm not looking for a job, but I do love ATS and want to help if I can.

Hopefully one of the things the first generation of councilors will do is propose good standards for electing their replacements.

Since I'm thinking three-month terms are looking about right, I would hope the councilors will come up with an election system that is smooth, transparent, based heavily on input from members and encourages an electoral culture that is relatively low-key.

Some people are having a lot of fun with classic garish politicking for these positions, and God bless 'em, it can be fun. I'm having fun with it myself, while I have my 15 minutes of infamy as a nominee.

Why not? Is this ATS or some stodgy old parliament building? We here for our enjoyment, aren't we?

However, I can't help but get chills up and down my spine at the idea of seeing a replay of the November 2004 U.S. elections every three months on ATS.

Ideally, elections for councilors will be routine enough that it won't be a big deal. People can nominate and be nominated, campaign tastefully (whatever that means) and we can circulate electees through their councilor positions with minimal hassle.

At least, that's what I would like to see happen.

Just like you don't have to live in america if you don't like the elections, you don't have to post on ats if you don't like them. ATS chose to do it this way as an organization that is under their own control. If you don't like it, just leave.

Tom it best to look past TSA, he grips about everything.

I never disagread with TSA. He has a very valid point, but ATS is not an anarchy. I think it is better to give members more control in this case. That way, less people will question the mod's authority to make radical decisions. Kinda like we are doing now.
The system will be more...
well, civilized.

Attacking someone's grammar and spelling usage?

How about you use some capital letters and actually write a full sentence then.

Just the ticket to motivate the masses, not a chicken in every pot, but William Strunk's tome used on every post. The panacea of entire threads seemlessly flowing into an enlightening focal point... The truth of denying ignorance. No spelling or grammatical errors here, just pure and thoughtful prose. ATS Councilors unite! The path is clear...

Or maybe not.

Literate Monkeys, not just for complete sentences anymore…

I think we are good as long as none of the candidates is trying to ban gay marriage as a sole focus of their campaign

We got ninja parties and chat bots running for elections... we are nothing like USA elections 2004

Democratic process is not the problem, the ABUSE of it is.
So far, ATS democracy has been just fine

The only corruption I see coming is if councilors become obsessed with personal power, "saving the world", "fixing" things that aren't broken to seem like they're doing something and, worst of all, forgetting who they work for: us.

However, as members, we can at least slow the process down by electing people who won't do that, and holding them to their promises.

I'm posting my expectations for councilors because that is precisely how I intend to do business if you elect me.

My posts and opinions are public, and where I should fall short or backslide, either as a candidate or a councilor, I expect you to give me hell -- preferably by forcing me to eat my own words.

I think that is a standard all councilors should live by.

Majic

spoken like a true politition...lol

Half the elected ppl i have no real knowledge of you probably one of the first...........

Where is the campaign forum so that we can all see what you have to say. As at the moment you could just post in well used topics to get the votes should be an area devoted to your campaign so that everyone gets an understanding for each individual candidate and see you campaign against each other..

Just a thought
