The CIA has been conducting a three day long "war game" that will include mock assaults on the Internet infrastructures in the U.S. The most severe attacks will occur during the conclusion on Thursday afternoon.

The CIA is conducting a war game this week to simulate an unprecedented, Sept. 11-like electronic assault against the United States. The three-day exercise, known as "Silent Horizon," is meant to test the ability of government and industry to respond to escalating Internet disruptions over many months, according to participants.

The simulated attacks were carried out five years in the future by a fictional new alliance of anti-American organizations that included anti-globalization hackers. The most serious damage was expected to be inflicted in the closing hours of the war game Thursday.

An earlier cyberterrorism exercise called "Livewire" for the Homeland Security Department and other federal agencies concluded there were serious questions over government's role during a cyberattack depending on who was identified as the culprit _ terrorists, a foreign government or bored teenagers.

The source articles mention "September 11-like attacks on the Internet" and "Internet attacks on the scale of the September 11 hijackings."

What?

I thought on 9/11, planes got highjacked and flown into buildings... That seems quite different from a hacker running some DOS script or whatever...

How effective can these sessions be? What will the CIA learn from these exercises? I think that for the most part they will be ineffective and CIA's money is better spent elsewhere. These don't really appear to me to be like "war games," as much as "playing pretend."

Anti-American would be anti-Globalization? As in New World Order?

Oh well, it's just a game..

In fact they're preparing to shut down transatlantic communications for their next coup.

from source
“Livewire,” an earlier cyberterrorism exercise for the Homeland Security Department and other federal agencies, concluded there were serious questions about government’s role during a cyberattack, depending on who was identified as the culprit — terrorists, a foreign government or bored teenagers.

Questions about government's role? What, like, "our whatever important computers are being attacked. We traced the IP to China. Should we nuke China?"

This whole "cyberattack" thing is totally bogus. Maintain secure systems as well as you can, but if they you are compromised, pick up the pieces, prosecute, and move along. It doesn't matter who did it, because whoEVER did it, you will be calling their government and having them arrested. If they don't have a legitimate government, then chances are they don't have Internet access either.

What's with this problem-reaction-solution standard we've got now?

No "cyberattack" is going to "bring down" America or whatever. Attacks happen EVERY DAY of the week and none of them are severe enough to cause any changes in daily lives for most people.

These articles are likening "cyberattacks" to the events of 9/11. What the--? Come on! Cyberattacks that would cause 3000 deaths and change city skylines and the very future of the people of the country?

People who don't understand computers ("Y2K") needn't write articles about them.

Hmm, nice call on that. Or at least they are saying anti-globalization groups can also be anti-american. Tho I think it makes sense, the US is big on globalization. Globalization needn't have anything to do with the NWO and a one world government. Indeed, when peopel are talking about globalization, they're not talking about a global government.
