I've always thought that Sears Tower in Chicago would be on the list of targets for Al-Queada.

I thint it was already a target, and after security at airports picked up after 9/11, I do believe they caught some people in a chicago airport. They may not have necesarrily went for Sears Tower, but who knows.

The reality of such an even happening is truly horrific and a sad waste of innocent human life. But it is that fact that makes Terrorism, TERRORism.

I forget who said it and where but something I read or saw helped me understand the "why's" behind targets such as "World Trade Towers" the "Pentagon" "Sears Tower" etc.....What it was saying is that these targets aren't about Strategy on a military advantage perspective, but about creating Terror, hence Terrorism. These targets don't hurt the enemy forces like in a military battle so much as they are symbols that when hit or destroyed have a symbolic and emotional effect against your opponent. That is the essense or action of putting TERROR into TERRORISM. I never really thought about it until I came across this persons essay. Which I think shows the healthy productive side, since thinking of such things is just destructive thinking, but it was eye opening at the same time. I wish I could give a reference so you could see if for yourself, but I don't remember any clue what it was.

The reason buildings like the WTC and Sears tower are targets is because it hit a government where it hurts the most....economy. The American economy still has not rebounded from 911. With the threat of further attacks always looming now, I'm not sure when it will.

Troubles in economy unseat power sometimes more effectively than military devastation.

Do you have any idea what type of aircraft it was, what kind of engines, any specific details?
Are you sure they were military aircraft? Is there a dirt airstrip nearby, or an AFB, they could just be practicing low altitude manouvering.

The WTC being hit I don't believe actually hurt our government in my opinion. It did hurt the people of this country, by killing those inside the building obviously. Our government on the other hand actually seemed to escape just in the nick of time. In the confusion passing some new rules enabling more control over it's people (Patriot Act). Not to mention all those with fat bank accounts and established within the gov. especially at high levels seemed to secure their pocket books just in time, like usual. Plus it's not like the building was full of actual money that just turned to ash, the fictional number we call our economy and the damage it did endure seems to really only hurt the common man, or working class while the Gov. Officials, etc are fine as usual.

From a certain perspective it seems that the only thing hurting the Government is all the scandal that has come after the attack that links them to some bit of an involvement with the attacks.

I don't deny the strain on the U.S. economy, yet I see the strain weighing on the little people only. Our Pres. got his oil and yet another notch in his multi-million dollar oil conquest. Our Security Leaders got their new surveilance toys and security measures in place. The pipe lies are being laid down and established by certain chosen companies (hint, hint). The Gov. made it out just fine, while the people now live in equal if not more Terror, our soldiers are dying in the line of duty and are being spread everywhere and kept on duty for too long without justification, and the newly liberated people of Iraq are still living in confusion with less help then promised and without much success in restructure of society. Not sure who are the winners and losers in this one just yet?!?!?

I was just trying to answer the post by Lukefj, but got a bit carried away. I didn't even think about the fact that I was WAY OFF TOPIC until after it was too late.

If it helps my defense at all, you'll notice I was totally on topic up until then though?!?!? I even came up with a possible theory linking this post and another showing at least some bit of creative thinking.

But you can still warn me if it would make you feel better, I won't take offence. I'll just view it as another "Official Symbol Pinned to My Uniform" earned while I was on Duty!!

What if DR was right...oh boy....terrorist attack..hope not...oh boy....do you still have site of the aircraft or have they left your field of vision?
