A fire and explosion at a sub station has caused widespread power outtages throughout Southern Moscow and up to 120 miles away. Subways have been shut down and trading on the Moscow stock exchange has been suspended. Unseaonably warm weather has put a higher demand on the power system and could be partly to blame.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations says outages are reported throughout southern Moscow and as far as 120 miles away.

Subway lines and trolley-buses have been forced to shut down. Some apartment buildings have lost their water supply and trading's been suspended on a Moscow stock exchange.

Russia's Interfax news agency reports passengers have been evacuated from stalled subway trains. And passengers waiting for trains have been told to leave.

The weather's been unseasonably warm in Moscow this week, putting extra demand on the power system.

I didn't realize that the weather got tham warm over there, that it would put a demand on the power supply.

I hope they get it back on line soon and that no one gets injured or worse.
