FRANKFORT - The Kentucky Army National Guard has announced that the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 206th Chemical Battalion will depart for Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 4 from its Richmond base.

The 56 soldiers assigned to this detachment - including members of the 301st Chemical Company in Maysville - will depart for their mobilization station at Camp Atterbury, Ind., before deploying to southwest Asia, where their mobilization is expected to last about a year.

More than 1,500 Kentucky National Guard soldiers and airmen are mobilized in support of operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle.

I found this interesting... these guys are going...

206th Chemical Battalion

It's on now... we're sending a bunch of "hillbillys" over there, get ready for some good ole fashion butt kick'n.

This is from my Homestate... of KY, I used to live in Maysville, I might know some of those guys.

God Bless.

I wish anyone walking into a dangerous situation the best of luck. And I appreciate your sentiment. But I'm sure these guys have more than prepared themselves for a little butt kicking of their own. It's only realistic.

You too should be prepared to handle some (un)expected bad news. Particularly considering you [might] know some of them.

Peace.

Best of luck to them, and I hope they come home safe.

(What's a Chemical Battalion? Like, NBC defense capable?)

I just made a couple of phone calls to some old friends back in Maysville, trying to get the scoop.... but couldn't reach anyone.
