A boulder was found in a farm field in Ceder Rapids that was not there when the field was farmed last year.

A big rock has spouted in a farm field in Cedar Rapids, creating a big mystery. It wasn't there last year. "We picked the corn last fall and the field was fine. We came back this spring to do some field work, and this big rock was here," said Bob Taylor, 51, a hired man for Balderston Farms of Central City.

The farmer has estimated the rock to be about 15,000 pounds.
There are marks on the rock that shugest it might have been moved my machines, but there is no evedence of movement around where the bolder is.

For the time being it will be farmed around, hopefully it will be moved off his field some time soon.

dont worry, i got this one. The boulder was placed there by UFOs. They carried the boulder to that field from a planet that orbits alpha centuri. They used the particle suspension beam on thier space crafts to carry it here, placed it, and left. If and when you break the boulder open, there should be very important items in the middle. The outer casing was made of rock as a tough and durable transport container. The End.

ok...

Im not sure if this was a joke or a serious response.

Getting back to the topic. I saw that on tv. The rock had some scratch marks on it. As to how it got there, Im not sure. Little bit big to be a prank.

Taylor, who guesstimated the boulder at 15,000 pounds, said maybe it was a meteorite.

That would be my guess.

Edit. Removed stupid remark.

I can't open aol news links, but I'd be interested in more (especially pictures).

This is better than crop circles really. That's amazingly heavy. Not an easy haul or prank at all.

A strange story that seems to have evoked some jocular responses, curious.

Let's stamp out humor now. Put a stop to any fun......

The original story was not presented in a fashion that made it a serious topic.

Sorry, but doesn't anyone else see the irony in this?

Anyway, I think there's probably a mundane explanation like it rolled off a truck as said in the story.

I think the link explains most every possible outcome.

1- its not a meteorite etc because theres no crater
2-it has no sign of being lifted out of the ground (farm rock picker, cultivator)
3-if it did fall off a truck from a housing project they should pick it up again if its theres.

I agree.
Can't we have fun anymore?
It's not like someone was making fun of the original poster.

Sorry about that. Actually, there was another word misspelled in the tittle, not to mention others that may be in the text that I will not fix.
I did't even notice apears
It is now fixed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But, please let's keep on topic, as in the boulder.
I'm not really seeing a paranormal connection here!
Extreme frost push?
This happens every year in my yard on a much smaller scale.
Seriously, this is a rather large rock for vertical migration, however it happens all the time in fields. I grew up farming and hard winters like the midwest had with a great deal of moisture and freezing temperatures push rocks and boulders of small to quite large sizes up through the soil...year in year out, depending on the mineral composition of the rocks a great deal of scarring will occur as they push through layers of earth and rock.
This is really very common, and I have had to move boulders of perhaps as great as 1000#s with the front loader many times as a boy.
I would have suggested a frost heave as others have suggested here. Look at the edge of any farm field and where do you think the stone walls came from? Years of clearing the frost-heaved boulders. This is a really large boulder, though. Maybe the farmer had a neighbouring enemy farmer who played a prank on him by dropping off one of his rocks?
