Yup, this thread is from 2005. According to CNN.com the incident that may have been discussed occurred in May of 2005.

"Now in the news, the military has found the body of one of two Marine Corps fighter pilots whose jets apparently collided over Iraq. A search is now underway for the second pilot. The FA-18s from the carrier USS Carl Vincent went down in bad weather during a routine mission. "

The report aired May 3 , 2005 - 05:30

To all concerned. This incident happened in 1996. I was on board the Carl Vinson when it happened. Two Planes collided in the air. Clear skies at night. Both died. both were found. Of course anyone who's been on a carrier, knows that the whole ship vibrates when it increases propellar speed to speed up the ship. Once it gets up to speed the vibration settles some.
