A document called the "Chinon Parchment" which tells of the papal pardon by pope Clement V of the templars in 1312 has been discovered in secret Vatican archives.

Vatican documents have come to light showing the wholesale massacre of the Knights Templar in the middle ages for "heresy, idolotry and sexual perversion" - an episode still shrouded in mystery took place even though the pope had exonerated them in a secret trial.
Barbara Fraile,a researcher at the Vatican School of Paleontology said the result was a complete exoneration of the knights.

If Clement V pardoned the Templars why was the fact kept secret for so long and by whom?
Why even after their destruction was it deemed necessary to hide the truth when for so long when they no longer posed a threat.
Is it the fact that they are still powerful centuries later, and that is why the Vatican found it necessary to hide the truth.
