Michael Griffin, new head of NASA may form an "Apollo Style" team to develope the new CEV in-house.

He has also spoken about a larger version (not as big as the Shuttle, but larger than current proposals). He feels he has a good launch system with the current stack of tank and SRB's that lift the shuttle, and wants to continue using a proven technology that NASA already owns.

His vision includes separating human and cargo flights by using different configurations of ships attached to the same lifter used by the Shuttle.

This configuration could lift a massive amount of cargo if it didn't have to be loaded onto an already overwieght shuttle. I got the idea that he was talking about some sort of disposable cargo pod that could move far more supplies into LEO than the current Russian, European or Japanese cargo carriers.
