Raja Nawaf, governor of the western province of Anbar in Iraq has been kidnapped by insurgents. He was captured at a roadblock somewhere between Qaim and the provincial capital Ramadi. The insurgents later demanded that US forces pull out of Qaim where the US claims to have killed 100 insurgents.

news.bbc.co.uk
In a telephone call to Mr Nawaf's brother, a group claiming to have kidnapped the Anbar governor - who only recently took up his post - said they would hold him captive until US troops pulled back from Qaim.

US military officials say they have killed up to 100 insurgents since it launched Operation Matador in Qaim, 320km (200 miles) west of Baghdad, on Saturday night.

US commanders believe the lawless area is a haven for followers of insurgent leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

How much longer will these kidnappings and attacks carry on?

I was in full support of the war in Iraq but maybe it is time for the US led coalition to re-consider their position in Iraq.

It doesn't take much to discourage you, does it. Leaving Iraq now would be senseless and stupid, whether or not you agreed with the invasion. Operation Matador has been successful to date and deprives insurgents of one more haven. Semper Fi.

One of the main reasons i do not support the Liberal Democrat political party (UK) is because one of their policies is to immedietly withdraw the UK forces from Iraq. So no i dont think we should pull out.

BUT...

Something must be done to stop the attacks and kidnappings that do not seem to have slowed since the fall of Saddam's regime!

Leave now? If these guys are able to kill dozens of iraqis when the US is there, when the US leaves they will be able to kill thousands.
