Would i be correct in assuming that if you hacked in, and saved the info to a disk you would be rather safe?

I knew this one kid 17 yrs old, no formal computer training, hacked into DOD, Nasa and Australia Fed Police, just to prove he could do it - and the only way these companies found out was his Father made him confess to local police who then raised the alarm. You may be saying - 'Oh they were on to him' , Nope, he owned up 7 months later. They had no friggen idea.
Lucky for them he didn't have a harmless bone in his body.

I'm no expert but am familiar with certain systems and have worked with many brilliant minds - some people really do see beyond the code and any encryption methods used. These people genuinley are freaks. Not Geeks.

Nothing is safe, even at the bit level. Hence separate networks with no interconnection is the way to ultimately secure your data. Stand Alone is very popular but even then it comes down to employees and lets face it - humans aren't perfect.

\But then again, off site storage of backup data is another beast some choose to deal with.

There will always be someone better - I think thats important to remember and never to be underestimated.

Don't be silly, he wouldn't be killed. He would just be thrown in prision for a very long time and with media suppression orders all over the place.

So they're going to kill a high profile person?

Don't you think they would have done this with people such as Ames and the Walkers, if they did do it?

No, they can't.

In fact, I'm not even sure where this is heading.

You do know Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith were playing fictional characters with fictional equipment right?

thats for sure

and i think the whole thing is making a mountain out of a mole hill

consider this: from article Apocalypse Soon by Robert S MacNamara

(..................)
.......... The SAC commander's orders were to answer the phone ( the hotline to Moscow) no later than the third ring.
If it rang, and he was informed that a nuclear attack of enemy ballistic
missles appeared to be underway, he was allowed 2 to 3 minutes to decide if the warning was valid ((over the years, the United States has received many false alarms))......
source

~~~~~~~~~
IMHO, it goes with the territory and isn't uncommon,
you can see from the above blurb that even the Strategic Air Command SAC
was attacked, or in todays language, 'Hacked'
by people interested in just seeing if they could enter those
secure/sensitive operations with technologies available
BTW, one of you all, informed the thread of the NYT article which pointed out that it was the Cisco Systems routers & servers that were hacked and that in turn spun into the sensitive agencies arena....
no-big-deal is my opinion
Any new leads on this 16 year old guy who hacked into DoD?
Perhaps he was able to access areas that require high security clearance, only because he is related to someone higher-up. I know that sounds really like a hollywood conspiracy, but I think it's worth considering.
Then again why would the Dod or government even release this to the media?
Sounds like an scare tactic sponsored by Internet Security Companys trying to boost sales!
There is a thread here about this topic, and IT is properly placed.
Feel free to talk about the lack of aliens found online (
), but for comments pertaining to the story please see above.
Don't you mean they'd change his identity and then employ him?
This topic is completely laughable. I know quite a bit about this subject because I was in the navy when one said command had a few computers hacked. They are unclassified computers with nothing more then internet access. If anything was classified on the computer it was from some stupid person doing classified work on it. But that usually doesn't happen with the threat of 10yrs and a $100,000 fine. In all honesty, the hacker installed a IRC porn leech, used as free bandwidth for users to download porn. After a few key members of my command and i found out why two computers were running IRC in the background we then notified the authorities. it took NCIS 1 yr to find the dude, some where in the netherlands. Like I said if there was anything that the "kid" saw , he saw an unclassified email. Classified networks aren't even connected to unclassified networks. Plus the fact that they are heavyly encrypted adn that i know as FACT.
but a nice little laugh anyways
