With the ending of world war 2 many nazis seeking a new life were given the chance with help from Argentina and the Vatican.

At the time the Vatican was acting as a crucial way station doling out forged documents to fascist fugitives.Pope pius himself was considered
sympathetic to the tough anti communism of the fascists but had always maintained his distance from hitler.
A top secret state dept. report from may 1947 had termed the Vatican "The largest single orginisation involved in the illegal movement of
immigrants" including many ex nazis.
