Yep .. and he misses when the Soviets actually had a

WHY do guys always look back to the 'glory days'?
Chirac looks back to when France was a power in the world
and to when it had 'THE' international language. He is in
some sort of time warp and he thinks he can recapture this
time period for France. (he can't) Some men in America do it.
It's the 'Al Bundy' syndrome .. 'I scored 4 touchdowns in
a single game' ... but the game was 20 or 30 years ago
and they haven't done anything significant since.

Putin has Al Bundy syndrome or Chirac fever.
Both are mind numbing.

That is all well and good but it does not distract from the fact that Australia is not part of Europe.

I am not dissing Oz or saying that Europe should not foster close relationships. All I am saying is that Russia borders Europe and the two groups are having a conference.

I am sure that there will be conferences between Oz and EU that Russia is not invited to and more than likely meetings between Oz and Russia that EU is not invited to.

That is the nature of international relations.

One should not be upset if one is not invited to sit at every table every time.

Because people learn from history (hopefully) and in particular about what works and what doesn't.

I'm not convinced that Chirac is stuck in the past. On the contrary, France always was and still is one of the strongest proponents of the EU, which is a really revolutionary idea and one that creates a new European entity.

I'm not anywhere close a Putin's fan, but still, I don't see anything abnormal in a declaration that relationship with Europe is top priority. Anyone who thinks that's not the case is a retard.
