sometimes i wonder if the oil corps use "peak oil" as a tool to gain profits or if it really is a true event and they are scared because their oil is going to be all gone soon....my precious!!

World oil supplies were predicted to peak shorlty after 2000 or so back in the sixties by a guy named Hubbert. Oil companies almost always overestimate their oil reserves. Americas oil reserves peaked in the 70s I believe, and have been running out at ever increasing rates since then. there are very few substantial oil fields left in the world that havent been tapped. All of the large oil fields have arleady reached their peak and are in decline now.

Coincidentally (or not), Iraq has some of the last untapped large oil fields left and its also the cheapest and easiest to get out of the ground.

Anyway peak oil is real and the idea was around long before Bush.

"Peak Oil" is a concept over 30 years old. I'm sure that the White House spin doctors are trying to use it to their benefit, but I think that calling it a "lie" might be pushing it.

Growing up in Louisiana people in the oil business were always complaining about opec prices being to cheap to drill for more domestic oil If they could get the barrel price about $25 then (about $40 now) then it would be profitable to start drilling deeper wells in the gulf and other places.

I think it backfired when the Bush cortel got in a monkied with the world market which ticked on opec members who in turn cut production to raise prices. All this happened while demand was rising. Then we turn around and blow up an oil producing country upsetting the supply even more. Now they can't admit their mistake due to reprecussions that may ensue and possibly loosing the control of "Oil Dollars" and having it all convert to the Euro or Asian currency. One way or another we screwed the US foreign relations in 2000 and ticked off trade partners so this may be the "Peak".

No one has ever doubted that there was a conspiracy of sorts to artificially restricted production in the 70s and create an artificial oil crisis. This is completely independent of whether or not we have used close to half of all the recoverable oil in the world. People who control the oil production are obviously going to manipulate the market in order to maximize the profit of a finite resource (though, if anything, OPEC has actually kept prices unnaturally low--probably because we have a gun to their collective heads). The Bush families complicity in 9/11, in shady elections, in manipulating the oil market are all neither here nor there when discussing peak oil, which has to do solely with the amount of remaining reserves in the world. And while the numbers are subject to debate (due to less than transparent science of private coroporations and state oil companies), within that margin of error there is little doubt that the peak will fall between right about now and about 2025. The Bush family and their criminal cronies may well have a field day manipulating this event and making a killing off of it. This will not change the fact of oil depletion--it may artificially stretch it out or hasten it, make it more or less painful for the world, but it will happen.

And after it happens, the royal family will be riding camels with their Saudi buddies and their riches aren't going to do them a bit of good. And we'll all have the last laugh when their caravan gets jacked by some Bedouins.

as a side, there is research showing oil on astroids, and oil refilling in depleted wells. the dinosaur theory is weak. it is propoganda, frankly, imo. oil may be a product of geological processes, and not broken down organics.

The George H.W. Bush's CIA and peak oil? Take a look at Pres. Carter's Secretary of Energy........former CIA Director James Schlesinger. The article you qouted points that out, but also desribes him as an "environmentalist".
Stansfield turner was Director of CIA during the 1979 oil crisis, and George H.W. had not held the post in more than three years. Turner had been "cleaning out" many of the internal Bush appointments to CIA posts. No, if Cater was intentionally mislead by the CIA as the article suggests, it appears he is the only one to balme. He puts a former CIA director in charge of Energy policy and picks a new CIA director to "clean" the place out. Total ineptness.

Look, the fact is you can spin "peak oil" to fit which ever political conspiracy you wish, but ALL presidents since WW1 have made deals overtly and covertly to secure cheap oil during bad times, and or allow profit taking by the oil companies and foriegn governments in good times.

Well one exception applies, Carter, but more likely he was just too inept.

Try looking up president Clinton's "October Surprise" of 2000, a scheme to release frozen Iranian assets in the U.S. in exchange for allowing western oil companies to buy cheap Iranian oil. A tactic aimed at gaining votes for then Gore's campaign and securing donations for the DNC by the oil companies. Also take a look at the list of contributors for Pres. Clintons library in Ark............don't be suprised to see the Saudi Royal family, Opec nations like Kuwait and Qatar, various oil companies etc. etc. etc. Those donars all gave $1 million or more for the library.

Oh, and here's a real problem with the article you qouted..........The synthetic oil claims, links to standard oil and NAZI companies.........based on a FICTION NOVEL!!!!!!!!! The events Mr. Emory speculates on happened in 1926 and 1929, the NAZI party did not come to power untill 1932.
