Despite protests from gay rights groups, the FDA will begin recommending that men who have participated in homosexual activity in the five previous years not be allowed to donate sperm anonymously. The FDA insists that gay men are sufficiently more likely to carry the HIV virus, which causes AIDS, to warrant the new rule. Gay activists say the new rule stigmatizes all gay men.

To the dismay of gay-rights activists, the Food and Drug Administration is about to implement new rules recommending that any man who has engaged in homosexual sex in the previous five years be barred from serving as an anonymous sperm donor.

The FDA has rejected calls to scrap the provision, insisting that gay men collectively pose a higher-than-average risk of carrying the AIDS virus. Critics accuse the FDA of stigmatizing all gay men rather than adopting a screening process that focuses on high-risk sexual behavior by any would-be donor, gay or straight.

"Under these rules, a heterosexual man who had unprotected sex with HIV-positive prostitutes would be OK as a donor one year later, but a gay man in a monogamous, safe-sex relationship is not OK unless he's been celibate for five years," said Leland Traiman, director of a clinic in Alameda, Calif., that seeks gay sperm donors.

Traiman said adequate safety assurances can be provided by testing a sperm donor at the time of the initial donation, then freezing the sperm for a six-month quarantine and testing the donor again to be sure there is no new sign of HIV or other infectious diseases.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone would care about not being eligible to donate sperm. It would seem to me that any responsible citizen would be willing to do what it takes to protect the lives of those who require artificial insemination and donated sperm. I would also think that gay activists would have more important battles to fight.

This is a huge victory for heterosexual activism and a giant step forward for straight men that pay for unprotected sex with crack whores.

This post reminds me of a popular reggae song by Bob Marley & The Wialers "Stir It Up."

How true.

People who don't see whats wrong with this are ignorant bigots.
This is state ruled discrimination against sexual orientation, and completely unenforceable.
Example
"Are you gay?"
"No"
"When was your last sexual contact?"
"You mean with a person? Or My hand?"
"With a person..."
"Oh, uh lets see, damn, been a long time, Clinton was president..."
"Ok thats fine, take this cup behind the curtains and let us know when you are finished"
....a few minutes later
"Ok all done"
"Great thank you very much"
takes money "No, really thank you"
walks outside "AHHAHAHA SUCKERS!"

By the way, not all sperm is used for artificial insemination, its also used for experiments.

It costs about $12,000 to have a child. Why get artificial insemination when you can adopt?
