I have been thinking of putting a special survival kit together for sometime now. What would be some good ideas? I would like to prepare for a
police state government type atmosphere. I have already thought about guns, but I am not sure what would be good for self-defense against masses and
still be affordable. Also all of this would have to be portable with a car. The main residence would be in a rural area (forest), so that’s the type
of landscape I will be faced with.

If you could hold it up, and resis the heat it would put off, a minigun would be your best bet. As for something against masses, i assume you mean
alot of people. Incindiary devices, such as molatov cocktails, or a napalm driven flamethrowing device would work wonders. I'll stick to my semi-auto
12 gague.

Realistically, you are going to need a small collection of weapons to keep going in the worst of the worst scenario.
First of all, a decent centerfire rifle. Preferably semi-auto of decently heavy caliber. My personal favorite, and all around most versatile is
.308/7.62mm NATO. You basically have 3 choices of rifles in this caliber for anything resembling combat duties, the M1A/M14, HK-91/Cetme clones, and
the FN FAL clones. All are also serviceable to provide meat in hard times.
A handgun provides portable stopping power that is with you at all times. Caliber and model are personal choices, based on what you handle, fire, and
hit with the best. I would recommend nothing smaller than a .38, and only if there is a reason you cannot handle something bigger. My personal
favorite is the Colt 1911A1 .45 (there are too many reports of failure to stop with 9mm)
A "working" handgun is not a bad idea. This would include something for small game (.22) and something to work as backup to a rifle in the event you
run into dangerous game (.44 magnum).
A shotgun is a good idea, both for defence, providing small game, birds, ect, and even larger game. Dont go any smaller than a 12 guage though.

Now dont forget all the other assorted stuff you will need as well. Food and water supply. Water purifier, all weather clothing. Good heavy duty
knife. Medical kit. Radio to keep up with whats happening in the world. Communications equipment to keep in touch with the rest of your group. Night
vision isnt a bad investment nowadays.
GPS reciever, even a cheap commercial one, will pay dividends as well.

Water is a big worry for me. Have you heard of the water purifier tablets, and what’s the verdict on them? All the info I come across on them is
from biased sources.

Water purification tablets basically just sterilize the water from water borne bacteria. It does nothing against chemicals or other material. They
also leave a very bad taste in the water (some of them come with a neutralizer for that reason) and all of them have very short shelf lives (I dont
think any of them are useful past 6 months)
If you have the facilities, boiling water vigorously is much more effective and efficient, and it will not taste as bad.
Water purification filters are a good idea as well, although somewhat expensive. Check the filter size, you want one that will go down to 0.5 microns
or smaller (some go down to 0.2 microns, although they are VERY expensive, and slow) as that is smaller than any known water borne bacteria. They will
also remove all particulate matter that could be hazardous.
You can make a decent water filter yourself, using activated charcoal and sand (charcoal will absorb most all chemical contaminants, and clean sand
makes a rather good filter). However, you still need to boil this water to ensure all bacteria is dead.

Well, a couple fully automatic weapons for anyone charging in mass. A 12 guage for close range shooting. A couple 9mm or .45 mag for dual shooting.
A long ange rifle for sniping. Then a anti-tank/aircraft for, well, in case they bring a stealth bomber or something.
My uncle is set for about five people. Good, if the time comes I'll go live in the attic at his house.

Well, my cousin got me a fully auto M16 yesterday, good timing.
I'd just say a nice automatic rifle, a shotgn, two or three handguns, incediary devices, and access to a spring or other source of water.
Son't worry about food, shoot it, or eat plants.
You'll probably want some full kevlar body armor too, just in case. Even though they'll probably use AP bullets on you.
You'll also proabably want a pretty nice car, (Hummer, Expedition, some kind of SUV).
Just remmeber, once you start your resistance, life's over, and you'll be hunted until you can reinstate a Deocratic gvernment.
Oh yeah, some caffiene tablets.
Good Luck,
Tassadar
Sorry, I typed M1 instead of M16, sorry. I don't have tank.

First, Tass, NEVER advertise that you have illegal weaponry! You may be fighting for your life before you are really ready .
I would agree with DR here on most points. Another good alternative to the .308 is the .223. I say this mainly because your adversary (s) will most
likely be using that size so you should be able to scavenge ammo for the next battle (provided you survive).
The handgun is a given yet I would probably lean toward the 9mm for the same reasons as above. I could be wrong but I thought the new officer side arm
was a 9?
Shotgun is essential!! 12GA and make sure you have a variety of shot sizes for different applications. OO Buck is probably the most effective
antipersonel round out there for distances under 200 ft. Imagine 9 .34 Calibre bullets (actually pellets) all hitting at once, needless to say it
makes a BIG hole.
The .22 is a good idea since you WILL be eating squirrel, Rabbit and pretty much anything else that moves. Fishing supplies are always a good idea as
well.
As far as water, DR covered it nicely.
Another thing you will probably want would be those "space blankets" they sell at camping stores and whatnot. They work wonders for keeping you
invisible to IR imaging systems, not to mention keep you warm in the winter
Anything else you want to bring along that is electric you will want an alternative "fuel" source for. Crank radio. Solar panel to charge 12V
batteries ect. Don't expect to have electricity if the Fecal matter hits the air circulation unit

Fry,
Normally I would rail against the .223 and 9mm, as I absolutely LOATHE those rounds. (For just a pound or so over the weight of a .223 rifle, with
.308 you get twice the effective range, muzzle energy, stopping power and penetration.) I normally only recommend those calibers to a person who for
some physical reason is unable to handle a more capable round.
However, the reasons you cited, resupply from what is likely to be coming to you/at you is a valid reason. However, I would still stress the need for
the heavier caliber, maybe to be used a bit more sparingly.
Besides, as pertains to ammo: STOCK UP. There are some great deals on surplus 7.62mm! (Also handloading, if you have the facilities and money to do
so, is a great idea)
Tass, just remember, the FBI monitors this site...

obviously, any medications you take on a daily basis. (that's not an insult. say your sinuses are like mine, and the only thing that helps is a
particular prescription.) think about what you do and need daily, and if worse came to worse, what you could function without. what's left on the
list is what you need to have a small stockpile of.

And it is also on the Homeland Security "books of interest" list.... if you place and order, do so with a false name, and pay in cash. DO NOT use a

Hey Fry.

It was obtaind legally,
My cousin is on San Antonio SWAT. His whole team got new entry weapons for their raids and stuff so the Captain let them sell the guns to a
local gun store or keep them for fun. my cousin kept his and gave it to me.
How is that illegal?
