EDIT
Please read the Terms And Conditions Of Use )again)...
You will not post any copyrighted material, material belonging to another person, nor link to any copyrighted material (with the exception of publicly
available sites and pages that the legal owners of the copyrights have created to make that material freely available to the general public), unless
that copyright is owned by you or by this website.

1. Polish vodka has dangers other than to your liver.
2. Nostalgia.
3. There are plenty of instances of members posting copyrighted material from other sites. It is illegal to do so.
I sometimes use bits of articles (sometimes long bits) because in my observation most members don't bother to click on links unless they are
passionate about something. ATS is just a 1/2 hour of circus or zoo entertainment before some members move on. If I am saying something that is
supported by an opinion or observation somewhere, it is fair dealing to post that with an extract and the link.
But I don't want to break rules.
So - there needs to be an absolute prohibition of the practice, or guidelines on what is fair dealing.
Absolutely no cut and paste posting, boring ATS.

Do YOU want ATS to be sued for stealing copyrighted material, for a thread like THIS?
Well that's allright with me, but are you paying the bill then?
Posting copyrighted material is prohibated on virtually every big forum on the net, not just here on ATS.

Posting copyrighted material is usually not a problem if you divulge the original source and give credit where due. I was under the impression that
the primary reason to avoid posting entire articles rather than a link was a bandwidth/server capacity issue.
I will say I have come across a few sites that absolutely PROHIBIT re-posting of any materials, few and far between though.
I stand and await my verbal lashing

you may be right, I'm not sure about copyrights ans stuff like that. i noticed william was actively editing posts, telling people not to post news
artciles and stuff like that.
This thread however didn't just contained a news article, it was a copy-and-paste post. Posts like that are not allowed on ATS. And 99%
copy-and-paste posts are news articles... HEY... that's an easy was to boost your ET resistance

As ATS evolves so will the quality of the material here, so long as the guidelines are fairly maintained.
Copyrights are clearly labelled (often with conditions) on source sites.
* On guidelines, I just realized (slow today) that Zion had edited Freddie's post to make it look just like it does now. I thought Freddie had done
it. I wonder, was there also a specific instruction to Freddie? If there was (other than the repost of the Guidelines) I could use it to, to make sure
I don't break any rules).
The warning given in the ATS conditions is reaonably prohibitive. It does not allow fair dealing but it does allow for links.
Hard (time consuming) to clamp down on all this, but enforcement or better guidelines are necessary to eliminate the pure cut and paste postes.

The issue is that people don't necessarily understand the rules, or even look at the rules.

Nearly EVERYTHING on the net is copyrighted by "someone". Links are never a problem. The problem arises when someone posts a complete cut and
paste written by someone else and credit to the owner (author) of the material is not given. Plain old Plagarism.
I think the terms of use are a bit ambiguous as far as that goes so I just use common sense
Mostly, I still think it comes down to capacity of the server though. I tend to respect that more than copyright laws

Now on top of being accused of posting this to increase some ATS ranking that I don't give a rat's arse over, I am being accused of plagerism for
not giving credit to the author? Um, why do you think I posted the URL? As I said before, nevermind. Did I complain about the edit, other than
lamenting about my old board?

Just to clarify, I didn't mean to accuse you of anything of the sort. I did not see this post until it was edited and thought that the reason for the
edit was because it was a full cut and paste.
No offence meant

wow. this thread went awry quickly.
on topic, does anyone know if Manichi's articles are actually real? I know they presume to be translations of Japanese tabloid articles, but if
'tabloid' means the same as 'tabloid' in the US, it could be "fabricated for your amusement".

By the looks of the rest of the articles there I would say that it's probably genuine. If I had seen "Wolf gives birth to Human child!" I would
dispute it. I can absolutely see someone being dumb enough to do this though.
Tabloid has many different connotations depending on where you are. I'm told Tabloid in britain is just Broad sheet so they are respected as opposed
to here......
