It's two different situations.

Iraq is a combat zone, the story is talking about PI as a whole.
Organized crime, petty crime and politics are the reasons for death journalist are facing in PI. IN Iraq the journalist are dying due to combat hazards or they are being kidnapped by whoever and die later on.

That's what I got from the story.

If you look at the percentage of dead journlalist, Iraq is still far worse than PI.

Actually, the Philippines is a war zone. The war on terror is in full swing down there.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The region often gets forgotten. And it is very dangerous for journalists down there. Whether it's more dangerous than Iraq, I couldn't say.

How many journalists in Iraq leave the Green Zone anymore?
Hell how many journalists actually report on Iraq from Iraq anymore instead of Jordan or Turkey or something?

Both the insurgents (incidentally undercutting thier own cause, but what do you expect from fanatics?) and the US (ditto) have made being a journalist in Iraq a dangerous business. It's not suprising there are fewer casualties now, there are fewer journalists. Something I guess the US was glad for in Fallujah.

Still, interesting article, thanks for the link.

PI is not currently a combat zone, It hasn't been for sometime now.
It was back when OEF first kicked off and sometime other that, but not anymore.

And I don't think the war on terror is as full of a swing as it is in Iraq
right now. It was never like Iraq.

What are you basing your statement on sporty?

As far as I can tell, the region is in conflict, between pro US government forces, backed by US troops, and separatist rebels who want to create an Islamic state in the Philippines.

If you've got some information, let's have it out.

Well the first time I was there it was, the second time it was not....but after just reading some stuff on it I found out that in PI some regions are and some are not.....which I did go to two different places so that would explain that.

I know about all the fighting and stuff I was just talking about if it's a CZ or not.
