I check this thread nearly every day for new posts, and what exciting news to come back to! I'm so pleased that you're so excited too!

When are you going to give it another go?

Good to see you back, hope you had a nice Christmas and New Year

Actually, last night my son and my grandson came by for a bit and I was telling my son about it. So we got the meter and stood in the same general area (a little closer to the front door but in the same "former vestibule" area). I said this is my son Chris and my grandson Ethan and if you want to talk to them then if they ask you a question that the answer is yes, you just move in front of this thing and turn the light on...three lights go on, then off. So my son says turn the lights back on...three lights go on and stay on. My son said turn the lights off, and it goes back to the default one light. He did the same sequence again and the lights came on when he asked and went off when he asked.

One other interesting thing about last night is that when I turned the meter on I was standing just about exactly where I was standing the first time and the meter went to three lights and wouldn't turn off. I walked around that location letting the meter change directions as I made a small circle and the lights stayed on. It wasn't until I stepped about 3 or 4 feet away from the original spot where Springer and I had done the first session that the lights went off. They stayed off until the above sequences of statements and lights happened.

Another funny thing...lol, my seven year old grandson. I was careful never to say anything while he was here about "we're talking to a ghost". He must have thought grandma was crazy because to him it appear I was talking to the meter. After the lights came on and off at his dad's requests he got real excited and he hollered at the meter "turn the lights on!" And I said, no, you can't be rude, you have to ask it please to turn the lights on. He said please turn the lights on, and the lights came on.

I'm going to buy a new battery (I just got this meter in the past couple of weeks and it came with a 9 volt in it) and change the battery out just as a step to eliminate any doubts.

For some reason I had you living in England.

Thanks for the KII info. I have a birthday coming in June and I've
been wanting one of these!

Cool, FF! My birthday is in June also! hahaha

What I'd appreciate from you is some guidance on how to set up a true experiment now that I have this. I also have a second EMF meter, which I don't like all that much because it doesn't have the LED or analog gage for reading the strength. It is just a true/false meter where either the light is off if there is no EMF above a threshold or it's on if there is. I've had it awhile and haven't used it much because I wasn't happy with it. I also have my analog tape recorder. The only way I can take video is with my digital camera and it's limited in how many minutes I can film.

If you can give some advice on a proper procedure and set-up, I will be glad to do something more "formal".

P.S. Also, if there are a series of questions that people who have kept up with this thread would like to have asked, in a yes/no fashion, I would appreciate you either posting them, or just u2u'ing me the questions.

Thanks.

Would it be worth your while to work out some questions you know the answers to? I can't think of any right now, but just to make sure you are getting readings properly, when you want them.

I'd be interested to know if who you seem to be communicating with is involved with the other half of your silver spoon duo turning up in your drawer? And the 'misplacing' of Springer's wallet. maybe you could find out where they managed to hide it all that time? (ie, was it in the house, was it downstairs, then narrow it down by room.) Surely you're curious to know where it was?

Wow.

My mind is going in a million different directions with this.

Please be carefull.

As for questions - if you insist - how about these for starters.... 1. Do you have a living body? 2. Are you here to protect anyone other than yourself? 3. Are you planning on leaving? 4. Do you want to leave?

I actually asked about the spoon. I asked if they were who gave me the spoon and I didn't get a positive answer. But I'm trying to ease into this - build some comfort level, trust if you will. When I get serious, I'm going to ask about the spoon, the wallet, and a lot of the other occurrences of the past.

mrs! great questions! I shall start a list. I think when I really start doing these Q/A sessions, I'll do about 5 at a time.

Ah. I just registered because of this thread.
I spent my whole day reading this and forwarded it to my mom.
I am particularly interested in the paranormal and often feel as if I have a "sensitivity" to it. It's kinda hard to explain. I can get vibes off of houses and things, i swear i'm not crazy.

Anyways, i was SO happy to find this thread was still active when I got to the end. This has read almost like a book for me and I am now entirley caught up in the story.
Thank you for sharing your experiences Val. I came upon this by accident but am SO glad i did, i can't even express to you.

Keep Updating!

Well, first update in a very long time.

I'm going to link some posts from previous years in this thread:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Talking about two instances of a large BOOM heard by us inside the house when we were in our bedroom each time. Note that on the first occurrence, the boom seemed to come from northwest corner of the house where my daughter's room is located and sounded either to be in the attic or just external to the front of the house. The best way I can describe this sound is like a cannonball just hit the front of the house, or the front of the roof - tremendous percussion sound. On that first instance, my daughter was in her room, my grandson was in the bedroom just behind my daughter's, and our two dogs were in the room with us. We were the only ones who heard this boom, and the dogs did not react.

Then a couple of years later...the same thing. I do not believe any one else was home at the time of the second one (not sure), but again, the dogs did not react.

Well, this morning I got up at 6 and started studying. I came up to my daughter's bedroom (she lives on her own now) where I have my pooter set up and started doing my research for a short essay. I was in here from just after 7 until about 9:30. Unknown to me, at 15 minutes til 8, Springer was jarred out of bed by a huge BOOM! coming from the same direction as we heard it before. The dogs did not react. Springer felt the percussion. I was sitting in here reading and didn't hear a thing.

So this is the third instance of this bizarre phenomenon, and each time only the people within our bedroom hear it.

One factor to rule out that I had speculated as a common thing is that the widow's watch has NOT been closed up for the year yet, so we can rule that out as being some connection to these booms. They really do sound like a sonic boom...and it is bizarre that I didn't hear a thing, and the dogs never react.

I think I heard somewhere about how some hauntings don't come through strongly or particularly active at first but there is more of a "gaining steam" period. It could be that?

Thats fun..lol.. But seriously, is their any smell? Like lilacs or honey? Is their a sense of electricty in the room? Unusual warmth or coldness? A feeling of someone/something else in their? Just curious and trying to narrow down what it is because right now it could be anyhing.

Fascinating thread!
It took me a few hours to read through all of the posts. Sorry if I missed the explanation for the protrusion off of the back porch that you originally thought had to do with the stairs--what did it turn out to be?

I missed a good portion of the links having come so late to the thread but your house is really beautiful. Hope you're able to find some explanation as to the interesting phenomena using the new equipment. I think the salad spoon addition is one of the most bizarre things I've ever read.

Thanks, elfie.

The protrusion off the side porch turned out to be just a box in under the stairs. At some point in the house's life, the stairs were moved approximately 30 to 36 inches east of where they set now. This was most likely done when the side porch was closed in and incorporated into the house. At that time it appears you came off the stairs at the top floor in the side porch instead of the house proper. They were later moved back to where they are now, but we're kind of unsure if that the position they are in is actually the original position...most likely it is. We are saving for our next big remodel job on the house and that will be to tear the old stairs out (when they were moved they were not installed properly and they are a living fun house, if you can picture it). We will turn them around 180 degrees, widen them and you will come in from the library which is now the bottom portion of the east extension on the house. (Springer won't let me call it the side porch anymore because when we rebuilt it, we did it correctly and now it truly is part of the house.)

I'm sure a lot of the old links are broken now. Some time in the future I will try to fix as many of them as I can. Unfortunately, some of them will probably never get fixed because I had a hard drive crash and I lost a lot of stuff. Maybe some of the members who have been in this thread all along saved some of the files...I hope so.

To the poster who asked: We have never experienced smells or cold or warm spots anywhere in the house as far as I can remember.

My daughter and I did an extensive KII meter session this evening. We found very high activity near the side door of the front room (this would be the door that my grandson was looking at when he was 2 years old and the very first incident happened in the house where he waved and smiled at something and then burst into tears). On the KII meter it was making ALL the lights come on sporadically in this area. We had already been doing some work with the meter around the house and had had one session in which we were told the entity was a child. So when we started getting this very high activity near the west door we instructed the entity that to tell us "yes" they would need to light the lights two times in a row. I asked if they understood and we got all lights lit 2 times in a row. For the following record I will use this standard: All lights lit 2 times in a row - yes. Otherwise - not a yes.

Q: Are you a man?
A: Not a yes

Q: Are you a woman?
A: Not a yes

Q: Are you a kid?
A: Yes

Q: Are you a boy?
A: Yes

Q: Are you a girl?
A: Not a yes

Q: I will start saying numbers. When I get to the number that is your age, please say yes.
A: Yes at 7

Q: Did you live in this house?
A: Yes

Q: Did you live with your grandpa and grandma?
A: Not a yes

Q: Did you live with your mommy?
A: Not a yes

Q: Did you live with your aunt?
A: Yes

Q: Are you the only one here?
A: Not a yes

Q: I will start saying numbers and when I get to the number of you that are here, please say yes.
A: Yes at 3.

Q: Is there a man here?
A: Not a yes

Q: Is there a woman here?
A: Yes

Q: Is there another kid here?
A: Yes

Q: Is the other kid a boy?
A: Not a yes

Q: Is the other kid a girl?
A: Yes

Q: Is it the girl in the picture? (I'm referring to the little girl on the front porch in the picture of the house taken around 1904.)
A: Yes (but we can't be sure what picture he is referring to)

Q: I will start saying numbers and when I get to the age of the girl, please say yes.
A: Yes at 12. (This does not match to what I've been told of the girl in the picture of the house. I was told she died shortly after that picture at the age of 4 or 5 when her two brothers came home - one with mumps and one with measles - she contracted both and died. However, there was a second girl who was older that contracted TB - she was granddaughter to the original owner. She died in a small house they built for her out back. The grandmother was the only one who would go out there and tend to her.)

Q: Are you happy we live here?
A: Yes

Q: Do you remember when Ethan was little and he saw something by this door and got scared?
A: Yes

Q: Do you know about the spoon?
A: Yes

Q: Was the spoon in this house before we moved here?
A: Yes

Q: Did you bring us the spoon?
A: Not a yes

Q: Did the lady bring us the spoon?
A: Not a yes

Q: Did the girl bring us the spoon?
A: Yes

At this point we decided to stop because this was quite a bit of energy on his part.

Q: Do you want to talk to us again some time?
A: Yes (repetitively - all lights lit over and over)

Q: We are going to go for now, but we will talk to you again.
A: Continued repetitively lighting of all lights.

End Session.

Later my mother and father came over and we set down with my mother and did a second session.

Q: Do you like our dogs?
A: Yes

Q: Do you like Bear the best?
A: Not a yes

Q: Do you like Dinky the best?
A: Yes

Q: The lady that is here with you, is she your aunt?
A: Not a yes

Q: Are you kin to the lady that is here with you?
A: Not a yes

Q: Are you kin to the girl that is here with you?
A: Not a yes

Q: Did you live here with your aunt?
A: Yes

Q: Was your aunt's last name Brown? (builder of the house)
A: Not a yes

Q: Was your aunt's last name Patty? (name of the grocer - second owner)
A: Yes

Q: Are you stuck over here by the door?
A: Yes

Q: Did you die by the door?
A: Yes

Q: Did some one do something to you to cause you to die?
A: Yes

Q: Was it your aunt that did something to you?
A: Not a yes

Q: Was it your uncle that did something to you?
A: Not a yes

At this point my mother says maybe it was a babysitter or nanny - the lights start lighting repeatedly.

Q: Was it a nanny that did something to you?
A: Yes

At this point my daughter became upset and we ended the session.

Wow, Val! That's some terrific progress.

Have you ever used Ancestry.com to do any research? With the last name and location of the family, and a ball park-ish date on the death of a 12 year old male, you might be able to cross reference and get some more details......census records, news paper obituaries, etc.

There is also a free geneology/history website called Rootsweb.com that has given me a lot of info on the family that lived in my parent's old house ( it was built around 1904)....I started with just the name on an old deed and managed to find the names of the children, the grand parents and the fact that one of the early owners, if not the original builder was killed on the railroad. ( As a child, I dreamed of a mahogany coffin standing in the front hall....maybe it was his??) Here's a link.....

Here's a page of my search for example

Fascinating story!!

I can't help but feel bad for this boy being earth-bound and unable to get to his relatives that have passed on. I wonder if he gets bored and what makes him happy. If anything makes him scared?

Here's a list of questions. I know as soon as I submit this post I will still be coming up with questions. If I was in communication with a soul like that I would spend a lot of time talking to him. Are those two old gossips still alive? I wonder if they would know about a little boy dying in your house?

First maybe let him know you don't want to upset or bore him with your questions and explain why you need to do it. Remember he is eight.

1. His name. Can you come up with a system of getting him to spell out his name? Go through each letter until you have it right and then go on to find out when he was born and when he died so you can look this information up. Explain how you can go find information about him once you know his name, etc.. Maybe you can show him everything you find?

2. Is he happy?

3. Is he ever scared? if so, what scares him.

4. Does he miss his parents and want to get to them?

5. Does he know if the girl and woman like your family?

6. Who hurt or scared Bear?

7. Do other people/spirits sometimes come to the house, not including the woman and girl?

8. Is there a man/spirit outside who takes care of the trees?

9. Is there ever a spirit/entity there that is evil occasionally?

10. Does he know who scared your grandson? Was it him?

11. Is the woman nice?

12. Does he know if your husband saw a real spirit in the doorway when he was so ill?

13. Who is in the attic making all that noise?

14. Why do they make all that noise?

15. Who turns on the water?

16. Would he like a ball or toy to play with?

17. Does he like television? If so what shows?

18. Why is he earth bound?

19. Will he let you take his picture?

20. Will he let you record his voice? Maybe you could explain all this technology to him?

21. Do the girl and woman want to talk to you too?

22. Where do the woman and girl stay in the house?

23. Who messed with your phone?

24. Is he the one who is stressing your dog out? Little boys do like to tease.

25. What year is it where he is?

Can I recommend a book to you? Don't Call Them Ghosts: The Spirit Children of Fontaine Manse- A True Story (Paperback)
by Kathleen McConnell It is not fiction. It is a story very similar to yours. A family move into a cool old house and fix it up and discover why they got it so cheap. The author of the story got to the bottom of the haunting. It turned out there were three sibling that had died in that house and for whatever reason they remained earth bound. They got very attached to her and the family. At one point the oldest girl ghost saved the life of a child in the bathtub who would have drowned otherwise. The family eventually had to move to take care of an elderly parent and the deceased children were distraught because they loved her so much. The story ends with the author helping them get to heaven.

The woman who inspired the "Ghost Whisperer" show on cbs helps earthbound people move on. She (Mary Ann Winkoksi) makes a white light for them to leave. She lives in Ohio and does talk to people on the phone about their spirits. She can tell you what is in your house. I don't know how she does it. You can google her and find audio interviews she has done. I heard her on Art Bell's Coast to Coast show. Here's her website: www.maryannghostbuster.com...

To DocEmrick:

No, I am not ready to ask him to move on. First, over the past 6 years there maybe have been 1 or 2 instances that could be described as "frightening", or of a negative nature, so it is not a matter of us being "haunted" by anything. This "communication" has been a long time coming. I want to find out if there something about this little boy that I need to learn. Maybe he was murdered and there is an unsettled injustice concerning just finding out about what happened and who was involved. I don't know, but I feel I'm supposed to listen first, and then move on to the next phase after I've learned something.

frayed,

Yes, I've worked on my own genealogy and actually used to have a subscription to Ancestry.com. Using that asset (the census records in particular) in combination with the picture is how we were able to pin down about a 2 year window of the year of construction.

After this session I researched the local cemetery a bit, but the website is lacking. I will have to make an appt to go out and look through their books. I'll have to make several trips I would imagine because not only am I going to be looking for names I know, but I'll need to look at all 7 year old boys during a time frame that fits the house (and that time frame could be from 1902 to about 1962)...that's a lot of years. I have the abstract of the house, so I also have information from that.

hardamber,

I will print out your questions and make sure they get asked. Here is what I have planned: In the next session, I want to ask further questions about him in particular - try to get a name if I can. But I also want to find out if he had a favorite toy he liked to play with. If I can find out what that was, I'm going to buy one of those toys and put there by the side door.

Something I need to share - he apparently won't talk unless my daughter is there. After the second session ended (when my daughter became upset when he was talking about he death) I and my mother stayed in the room with the meter. We asked several more questions after my daughter left the room and got no activity what so ever. Some of the questions should have gotten a response. I have tried to communicate two times since and have gotten absolutely no activity (no lights lighting at all). It appears he wants to talk to my daughter. So I'll have to make sure we have them when she is here. Good news, I guess, is that she is moving back home after losing her job, so she'll be here a lot.

Also, I'll have to manipulate some of your questions around a bit because I'll have to get to the answer through a yes/no question. If I can find my tape recorder (lol), I will also set it up in the room while we do future sessions to see if I get any EVPs, that way I can ask some questions that are not yes/no (i.e. meter dependent) and see if we get an answer that way.

Thanks everybody - I'm actually very excited about this communication. When my grandson was smaller (maybe like 3 or 4) he was at the house once and babbled something about "the little boy", but I blew it off because I thought I misunderstood him. That's one of those instances where you slip into denial and try to reason something off in a physical world way...I should have asked him questions. With him being 8 now, he may not remember. But when he is here again, I will ask him if he has ever seen a little boy in the house. I have to be careful on what and how I ask him, because we do not speak of "ghosts" or such around him. I don't want him to be scared of my house.
