Anything can happen on election night because there are very different contests in each area, Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy has said.

Mr Kennedy is using the last weekend of the election campaign to try to boost his support in the Scottish Highlands.

Asked if his party could really win, he said the election was much wider open than national opinion polls suggested.

Labour says votes for the Lib Dems could hand victory to the Tories, a claim Mr Kennedy has denied.

The Conservatives also say the Lib Dems cannot win and dismiss their claims to present the "real alternative".
