the mystery of the survivors is part of the plot, i think they are all there for a reason, and the flashbacks offer clues to why they are there.

well obviously... if you watch the flashbacks, almost in all circumstances each of them bump in to each other etc. sawyer with jack's dad. jack with ana lucia just before the flight. charlie in the elevator, when hurley tries to get on but is too fat. jack treats one patient instead of another, turns out to be boone and shannans dad. hurley won with the numbers, the numbers are everywhere on the island, and are linked in with everything within the whole story. hence, everything they've ever done in there lives was pretty much fate, and has led them all to the island for a reason. but as for each of them were brought to the island...that's a different reason for every person...maybe they're there to find answer about themselves...

For anyone interested, I have put together a bunch of LOST avatars.

They are only made from promotional photos from season one but I will be making more once I find some good photos to work with. It is first come first serve for these avatars and please read the thread before claiming an avatar.

Well, the counter got down to zero, almost. I wish I would have tivo'd the show. I'm trying to figure out what the symbols were that showed up on the timer just as time ran out, but was reset.

I found this on a web site, but does it make any sense?

here is the link to the site.
www.tv.com...

The timer reaches zero in this episode. When the timer reaches zero, the clock switches to a series of hieroglyphics. The first three places are red color on black ground, the last two digits are black colored on red ground.

Only the first, third, fourth and fifth symbol are visible before the timer is reset in the very last moment:

Digit 1 is egyptian for S (cloth)
Digit 2 is not shown
Digit 3 is not in the short version of the egyptian alphabet, it remotely resembles the symbols for ISH or MI
Digit 4 is egyptian for AH (vulture)
Digit 5 is not in the short version of the egyptian alphabet, it remotely resembles the symbols for H, S or B

Note: Egyptian texts are written without vocals and are read usually from right to left

Soo, that may be....

HAHISHS OR HAHMIS
SAHISHS OR SAHMIS
BAHISHS OR BAHMIS

Did anyone else pick up on the symbols? Any thoughts on the Egyptian text? Not sure how the Egyptian stuff fits in. Especially with the Hindu reference through the Dharma research stuff.

Any thoughts on Balloonist Henry Gale being another plant by the Others. Both the tail section group and the midsection group had 'plants' mix in with them. Goodwin with the tail section, and Ethan with the midsection group. I can't figure out how the people on the Island would know a plane would crash at a specific time to get people setup as infiltraters to look like they were survivors of the crash as well.

Love the show and all the good comments found in this thread!

they are egyptian, although some are more universal symbols. the one on the far right means 'man'. but overall i think you can take it all to mean 'death'. the official translation going round is 'cause death'... maybe something 'causes' death. the security device maybe??

I'm interested in knowing what else Desmond knows, When Jack said they crashed 40 days ago Desmond looked like he knew something happened 40 days ago. Maybe he accidently let the timer go beyond zero and thats when the plane crashed.

Not sure how the Egyptian stuff fits in. Especially with the Hindu reference through the Dharma research stuff.

The modern hindu religion is very similar to the ancient egyptian religion. Don't know if that provides enough to make a reference there.

Does anyone have pics of the frames shown as it counts down? They sure were ominous looking. They definitly looked egyptian too, however, is it also possible that they are using characters from the so-called 'harrapan script", a script used in the most ancient indian civilization? Tha'd be a bit of a stretch though, and pretty useless, since no one has ever interpreted that script.

Does anyone else think that the big reactor in the hatch actually powers a big-a$$ magnet that disrupts airplane navigation and even 'somehow' pulls planes towards the island so they will crash there?

I think the mobile over the baby's crib with 4 jumbo jets around some kind of star was a clue towards that.

The song that mobile played was "grab a shooting star and put it in your pocket" - could this also be hinting at maybe the island 'grabs' planes that were gonna crash anyway, and brings the 'survivors' there to keep it populated.

That's just my 2 cents about it.

I love the show. I only started watching earlier this winter. So I had to buy season one on dvd, and have had to fill in the pieces since then. Like the clock, the survivors of the tail, etc... I just registered on The Fuselage. I am Claires Baby.

Tonights episode looks reaaallly good

But is anybody else getting sick of the cheap tease antics of the show? I'm starting to not enjoy it anymore. I have a feeling if they keep it up, the novelty of the show will wear off.

Oh well, Battlestar Gallactica is still the best show on tv, Lost, for now, second best.

I’m just enjoying the ride. The only thing I’m sick of is sometimes having to wait 3 weeks for a new episode.
