This is really great news!!!!!

I hope the bird has a comeback as great as the Bald Eagle!

I was having a bad day until I read the article and heard the audio story.

Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Rediscovered in Arkansas.

audio link and story from NPR here, enjoy.

www.npr.org...

A group of wildlife scientists believe the ivory-billed woodpecker is not extinct. They say they have made seven firm sightings of the bird in central Arkansas. The landmark find caps a search that began more than 60 years ago, after biologists said North America’s largest woodpecker had become extinct in the United States.

We heard that this morning! I was elated to hear about it.

There are several other extremely rare/vanished birds I would enjoy hearing about a comeback for, including some of the birds of Hawai'i. There was one... I forget which one... that for the past few years only the song of a lone female has been heard.

Given the success of the A&M labs, I wish they could manage to somehow capture and clone some of these birds.
