It seems that the Chit Chat forum has the most topics and posts although it has nothing to do with this site. I think there should at least be a restriction on how much people post in Chit Chat.

What do you people think?

[This poll is just to see what people think. I'm not going to press the moderators to do what we vote.]

We need a place to post stuff that doesn't belong anywhere else. However Entertainment should be out.

I like Chit Chat the way it is. If anything it needs to get bigger.

We do have a place for that: Website Related Discussion

was put into place to somewhat organize chit chat. With out it people(like myself) would spend all day searching for subject related matters forever. At least this way some organization is put into place. I would like to see another section of chit chat dedicated to those who sometimes discuss sports, i.e. paintball, so, in essence chit chat is the largest single forum. But it is still a very messy place, even for me. But although it is sometimes a dirt spot on the site, plans will be and are being looked at to help make it less confusing. Besides, not everything everyone here wants to discuss is comspiracy related, so it helps.

If you do not like chit chat, don't use it.

Threads in chit-chat are helpful in getting to know one another and who we are discussing the conspiracy topics with. These non-conspiracy threads, in my opinion, are what make this more than just a conspiracy website, but more like a community. If they don't interest you, then simply dont click on chit-chat.

I do more reading than posting in the conspiracy forums, so I enjoy the interaction with other members in the "other" forums and I think the same goes for alot of our members, just look at the numbers like nyeff said. Right now it is 601 conspiracy posts to 217 chit-chat, seems fine to me.

If people objected to the chit-chat forum then they wouldn't post there.

I dont have a problem with the Chit Chat Forum. We need a place to goof off every once in a while. We cant be all serious 24/7.

Well, I must say Chit Chat does alway tempt me. I always post on something. But if I see something that is just too off of the site, I don't post in it.

I am suprised that you have not been verbally slapped for asking this question, Chit-Chat is in my opinion the main reason why ATS is so popular. It is the adhesive that keeps people glued to this site while they drift away from the other conspiracy based message boards on the 'net. Sure, it is fun to talk about all things shadowy, but after a while it begins to get repetitive. People stay on ATS because of the social interaction and just plain old craziness that happens in CC. Without a place to be discuss ordinary (ordinary=non-conspiracy, politics, sports, love, life) things, ATS would just be another place where a few hard-core paranoists hung out. Instead ATS is vibrant and active, full of things to do and people to talk to, this is truly a community of people, not just some street corner where a couple of weirdos hang out. Members actually think of their peers as peers, not some name on a computer screen; there are personalities behind every avatar, every title and mood, there are people. And CC is truly the column holding this community up, it is a place to post once you are done posting in Aliens and UFOs, and just want to find out who the person that told you about Zeta Reticuli is. So before you try to eliminate Chit-Chat, think about it's role in ATS as the single largest forum on this message board, and I am deeply suprised that there is a majority of people in this poll who believe that there should be no Chit-Chat here, no small talk among people. Apparently ATS has changed greatly in three weeks and for that I am deeply grieved.

xaos

P.S. The mods are the ones that erected this cornerstone of ATS, and maintain it for benefit of all the members, and I do not want to snub them in this post.

must we dig up these stupid issues again and again? if you don't like chit chat, don't post there and don't read it. it's blindingly simple.

I would prefer that members checked whether the posting of a new topic is necessary (ie making sure it is not a repost), not restricting anything that a member might have to say or ask.

I do think the Forums could be structured better.

I would like to be able to view recent posts on one screen across a range of Forums of interest and not see topics in Forums in which I have no interest or knowledge to offer.

That may be too hard to set up as a tailored option though, I'm not sure.

You must have the chit-chat forums, many of the threads there are quite enjoyable to read, more so at times than the conspiracy-related topics. I like to read an equal share of both.

MC don't take it personally that I put this up. I'm the guy who stirs up the site a little. I just like to see people's views on certain things once in a while. I really wouldn't care if this forum became the main focus of the site (although it would disappoint me
). In all truth, I don't want this forum to disappear, I just would like to see the people who just post in here only (along with Entertainment) go post in other areas too.

Hmm... I just thought it would be nice if we earned rights to Chit Chat by posting in other areas too. Like every post you make else where, earns you the rights to 7 posts here. Hmmm...

I looked in entertainment after I made this topic, and saw people I had never seen here before (since it was the first time I even looked inside that area). I just want to see them participate in the rest of the site.

Entertainment is the only place I do not even go near. (I try not to go near the religion forum either because of each time I went in, I got bashed.
But this is not of the point.)

Just remember that I don't want to start a big thing here. I just wanted to see what people thought. So thanks for telling me what you think.

This would most probably drive those people, that only want to post in chit-chat, to make useless posts in topics that earn them "points". Messing up a perfectly good topic... and probably pissing people off at the same time...

So therefore i think that would be a bad idea...

A little more organisation in the chitchat thread would be appreciated (like PA said). Keep in mind that Wiliam is working his a$$ off to get the site in shape and constantly improve it... so it might take some time... suggestions like yours are allways welcome...

It seems that the Chit Chat forum has the most topics and posts although it has nothing to do with this site. I think there should at least be a restriction on how much people post in Chit Chat.

I think Chit Chat should stay on ATS. Because even though this sites main purpose is to talk about Current Events and Conspiracies and such, it's also good to be able to talk about OTHER things on your mind. Instead of having to look for a whole different web site that talks about the "Other", ATSers can just do it here under Chit Chat.

For Example, the main purpose of a casino is to gamble right? But that doesn't mean they should get rid of the restaurants and bars. This forum needs to be fun where the people who use it can be comfortable and feel free to post about WHATEVER they want, whenever they want.

We're all talking about how we want the government to let us have more freedom, so why can't we be free to post about any topic we want? Why put restrictions on what we can talk about on ATS? I want to be able to come on ATS and post about anything I want. There's a reason why there's different topics, if you don't like the Chit Chat forum, don't read it and visit it. But obviousely people like it, if it's so popular and busy.....

Good point. Hard to make a perfect idea.

But I guess this place also helps keep the stuff that doesn't belong on the site, out of the other forums. DANG IT! You guys are changing my mind!
