I liked this one, it just shows people like to give a face to that which they don't know:

Year: 1572
Scientist: J. Sluperius
Now appears in: Fossils: Evidence of Vanished Worlds by Yvette Gayrard-Valy
Believe it or not, the animal that inspired this hideous depiction is a gentle vegetarian: the elephant. This 16th-century engraving of a cyclops kept alive a myth that started thousands of years before, when ancient Greeks assumed the big skulls they found must have belong to giants, and the median nasal openings must have been single eye sockets.

I think its amazing what the human mind comes up with. Dinosaurs couldn't possibly live in England so it was GIANTS!

WOAH DUDE!!!!

NEVER have i seen that type of creature before lol. Bu then again, there are most likly MANY MANY MANY creatures and beings humans have not encountered. And this goes to show that we are still finding "new" creatures in our oceans, no matter how big our text books on the known animals and bugs, there is ALWAYS something new to find out there that can blow away each and every text book known to man.

I'm pretty sure that you're looking at two camel spiders there, not just one. Also, they're not as big as you think. They just look big with that guy's legs in the background.

Anyway. that Hallucigenia is really, really wierd.
