The ubiquitous Dr. Zahi Hawass, discoverer of the golden mummies, excavator of the secret tunnels of the sphynx, and head of all egyptian antiquities, announces yet another stunning discovery. A large funerary complex thats around 5 thousand years old. Its from a time before egypt was unified into a nation-state, from before the pharoahs themselves. There were a number of bodies, and a large superstructure, along with peices of flint carved into the form of the head of a cow and the body of an ibix.

The necropolis was discovered by a joint US and Egyptian team in the Kom al-Ahmar region, around 600 km (370 miles) south of the capital, Cairo.

Inside the tombs, the archaeologists found a cow's head carved from flint and the remains of seven people.

They believe four of them were buried alive as human sacrifices.

The remains survived despite the fact that the tombs were plundered in ancient times.

This could have incredible effects on our understanding of one of the oldest and earliest civilizations. Not nearly enough is known about the pre-dynastic period. Some may recall that the Pharonic Crown is literally the crown of the old Lower Egyptian Kingdom and Upper Egyptian Kingdom put atop one another. These bodies date from a time before the crown was united, before the pyramids or sphynx were evening vaguely conceived, and before the nation-state itself formed.
