Maybe a paragraph on the topic would be in order. Just give it a little preface.

Use the "edit" button.

"link" really doesn't say much.

Old news Chinawhite:
USA to cancel the F-22 to fund the war?

If just one F-22 Raptor can take on and defeat 5 F-15Es, I'll take 179 any day of the week.

Of interest to you?

Simulations conducted by British Aerospace and the British Defense Research Agency compared the effectiveness of the F-15C, Rafale, EF-2000, and F-22 against the Russian Su-35 armed with active radar missiles similar to the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM). The Rafale achieved a 1:1 kill ratio (1 Su-35 destroyed for each Rafale lost). The EF-2000 kill ratio was 4.5:1 while the F-22 achieved a ratio of 10:1.

Btw, that 179 can be increased as funds become available.

Lol....thats quite funny! The EF can kill 4 1/2 Migs? What happens to the other half a mig left over? Is that the bit that gets the EF back?

(sorry, being silly, it's a long night shift!)

What is "old news" is that the number of Raptors to be produced was determined before 2005. The Defense budget came out in late 2004, Chinawhite.

What rubbish is this about those kill ratios??!!
Neither the EF nor the F-22 has faced any MiGs..
Also as i told chinawhite..180 raptors is good.. 350 is just fine..

The way some people go on about the Raptor and it's theoretical supremacy and invincibility, I'd have though that no more than a dozen would be sufficient

It really doesnt matter. The F22 is superior enough to hang with just a 179 planes. Actually, 179 is equal to at least 2000 of any other type of aircraft as it can shoot down MULTIPLE targets before it can even be detected, let alone an enemy getting a shot off.

6 missiles = 6 first looks = 6 first fires = 6 kills per flight. 179 is just fine.

Every country in the world would kill for just one Raptor, but still we will get more than 179 as the current number stands right now at 339-380 Raptors.

Considering the typhoon has a hit ratio of about .5 against the raptor you would only need 358 Typhons to have an equal force.

In other words the UK RAF alone equiped with 232 Typhoons could take on the entire USAF raptor force and take a very large chunk out of it

Lucretius care to provide some links or proof about your .5 ratio? According to Seekerof’s data shouldn't the Raptor have a kill ration of 5:1 against the Typhoon, Or is my math messed up?

no seekerof's information actually gives it a 4.5-10

In other words roughly half... though in the other half of the test the average was 6 for the typhoon and 10 for the raptor... so they averaged 2 typhoons to the one raptor

179 will be enough for such an expensive fighter imo, US DoD budget is too high anyway. If you cut taxes you shouldnt be increasing defence spending.

WTF if you think about how fast tech is developed then the raptor is not goin to be top aircraft for more than 15-20 years. they will probaly find some way to detect it (i think the russians already claimed they could) also the american airforce has looks of commitments in the world and 10 raptors here or ten raptors there wont cut it. It might be better now but nothing says the best for ever

And so that is why you claim the US requires more raptors??!
Because it will be obsolete according to you in 15-20 years..??
What's the logic in that?

Infact.. if its going to be obsolete in only 15-20 years then why build more!
