Armed Transdniestrian militiamen shut down a polling station in Corjova (Dubasari) on June 17th. Citizens of Corjova were supposed to elect a mayor and a local council, but was prevented once again. Last election failed because Transdniestrian militia blocked the entrance to the polling station. The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Louis O'Neill, condemned the forced closure of the polling station.

Igor Smirnov is very angry about some new rules regarding declaring of raw material imports. He threatens with "a string of retaliation measures" against Chisinau, starting 1 July.
Also, the Russians are apparently going to unveil a new conflict settlement plan very soon. This plan seems to be against Tiraspol's wishes, so Smirnov might try to stir up some trouble...

July 1 is now. War has just started in Georgia. Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia, is being intensively shelled. Abkhazia has said it might give military assistance to South Ossetia. Tiraspol has previously said it will help South Ossetia as well. Will the war in South Ossetia spread to Abkhazia and Transdniestr? How will Russia respond to this?

The total debt of Transdniestria for Russian natural gas is $1.3 billion. Gazprom has turned that debt over to OOO Factoring Finance. Tiraspol has made it clear that it does not intend to pay that debt. “Transdniestria has no legal debt,” Smirnov stated in March. “There was never an agreement signed with Gazprom. AO Moldova-gaz signed an agreement. Fifteen percent of the stock used to belong to Transdniestria, but then Transdniestria gas structures left the Moldovan association. So now let Moldova deal with it.”
That angered Moscow so much that rumors began to circulate in the press that the Kremlin was getting ready to replace Smirnov.

On September 7, 1997, a story broke in which Lebed alleged during an interview with the TV newsmagazine Sixty Minutes that a hundred of Soviet-made suitcase-sized nuclear weapons designed for sabotage "are not under the control of the armed forces of Russia".
I wonder if that is to mean they have been sold, via black market. Or if he is giving the people who may be interested a heads up to potential threats

Moldova cannot be a terrorist state, the majority there are of Christian faith and speak romanian, Moldova was a part of Romania until 1940 when Russia occupied it.
After 1990 Moldova became independent. They have a corrupt leadership that likes being in power and do not want to give it up and unite with Romania
But Transnistria the little place in the corner with the city Tiraspol did not like that the URSS disappeared , they separated from Moldova and started a little war. Now they want to be a part of Russia I think

Gazprom’s character is not only illustrated by its consideration to supply illegitimate Trans-Dniester with gas supplies separately from Moldova. Western law enforcement and intelligence agencies have suspected relations between Gazprom, Russian security services and companies linked to [Ukrainian-born – Ed. note] Semyon Mogilevich, [an alleged mobster wanted by the FBI on money-laundering and racketeering charges – Ed. note].
A [Ukrainian State Security Service – Ed. Note] SBU spokesperson stated: “The probe is part of a broader investigation into suspected money-laundering, smuggling and tax evasion stemming from the Turkmen gas trade.”
The US Justice Department identified Mogilevich as the leader of over 300 criminals, operating in more than 30 countries, involved in murder, extortion, trafficking in women for prostitution, smuggling, money-laundering, and bank and securities fraud and, in numerous countries, the corruption of public officials.

We already knew this, but it's interesting to see it mentioned in mainstream media. This is only the tip of the ice-berg. Mogilevich's weapons trafficking and sales of Uranium (and suitcase nukes?) to Bin Laden and North Korea, and other things, are not mentioned here...

Tiraspol doesn't want the GUAM states (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) to discuss "frozen conflicts" at the general assembly of UNO. They seem to be concerned about them getting support and mandate for "starting military actions" against Tiraspol.

The so-called deputy minister of foreign affairs from Tiraspol, Vladimir Iastrebceak, asserts that the countries from GUAM want to impose the world community their own opinion regarding the self-determined states, obtain UNO’s support and even the application of some punishments and mandate for starting some military actions.
