Fully armed Nazi bomber planes 'buried below East Berlin airport'

Topic started on 23-7-2003 @ 12:11 PM by dragonrider

AN AIRPORT used by hundreds of thousands of tourists and business travellers each year could be sitting on top of thousands of live bombs.

Papers among thousands of files captured from the Stasi, the secret police of East Germany, claim tons of live Second World War munitions were buried in concrete bunkers beneath the runways of Schoenefeld airport in East Berlin. It is now the main destination for discount airlines, such as Ryanair, and numerous charter companies.

Not only did the commissars intern munitions beneath the runways, but also entire Nazi fighter planes, all fuelled and fully bombed-up, according to the Stasi.

The captured files of Interflug, the former East German government airline and the airport authority of the DDR, are now being examined to see if the Stasi claim is true.

Experts believe it entirely feasible that, in the aftermath of the Second World War, with Berlin littered with millions of tons of unexploded ordnance, the Soviets could well have pressured local officials to move to clear the airfield as swiftly as possible.

"They would have stuffed them anywhere they could - there was simply too much stuff to blow up all at once," said Karl-Heinz Eckhardt, a Berlin historian. "There was a warren of massive Nazi bunkers beneath the site of the present airport that would have suited their purposes."

City authorities claim the airport is perfectly safe, but a thorough check on the claims in the Stasi files - 140 km of them that will still take a number of years to decipher - is being undertaken.

Wow that would make thousands of warbird fans very happy. There would be no shortage of warbird collectors and museums willing to spend millions to have those planes in their collections.

hmm, that's pretty dangerous.
But if they are in concrete bunkers, it's a lot safer.
Here in Holland they are still digging up quite a few 500lbs bombs every year, but they have been laying in the mud for 60 years.

next time, don't fly into berlin. heh, frankfurt is much better.

anyway, i wonder who'd be blamed if all this blew up, better yet, if some terrorist group got their hands on these planes and started to fly around and blow stuff up. i mean, who knows what kind of ammunision they have. think of this, says the nazis did successfully build a nuke, it could be in that bunker with no one being any wiser cos of how they burned a lot of their stuff. i remember hearing like there was a lot of money in a lake somewhere or something for hitler if he was to escape i dunno much about that though. heh i'm kinda creeped out now.

Somehow i think airport security would notice 500+ germans with swasctica(sp?) armbands digging a hole in the middle of the runway

i'm suprised the soviets didn't order it all to be shipped back to russia to be taken apart and analysed. seems like a foolish idea just sticking it in the ground.

bunch of crackheads with shovels. i doubt that though, they'd probably have an alternate means of getting in there, nazis had a lot of escape tunnels i think, err or the vietnamese, one of the two, but i don't think you're going to dig into a bomber hanger.

Well the money phoenix was talking about was a project by the Nazis to use Jewish prisioners to conterfit British money to try to destabilize the British economy. I like the Nazis through some in a lake to hide it.
