WAR: IAEA: al Qaeda Sought Nuclear Weapon

Mohamed El Baradei, the head of the International Atomic Enegy Agency, told Norweigan television that al Qaeda and other extremist groups sought to obtain a nuclear weapon. El Baradei cited evidence found in Afghanistan after the U.S.-led invasion as proof that the groups were trying to obtain one. He went further to claim that we are "in a race against time" to prevent a nuclear weapon to stop the spread of such weapons.



Groups such as al Qaeda dream of gaining a nuclear weapon to use against the U.S. and other Western nations. We need to do everything we can to stop them from getting one, since they would not hesitate to use one.

To use, or to bargain with? It may be a case of "monkey see, monkey do," as nations gain nuclear threat status to bring power to the table and the "terrorist groups" want the same amount of power without all the trouble of building a nation or running for office.

Or, maybe they aren't content to mess around on the guitar and play games on their XBox like the rest of us and they just want to blow up as much stuff as they can in the name of God. Who would we retaliate against if a "terrorist" bombed a U.S. city?

i don't see terrorists using a nuclear weapon as a bargaining chip -- if they have one, they'll use it.

I think everyone's known or thought that al Qaeda was after nuclear weapons for a long time, but the El Baradei statement is new.

Hollywood portrays every militant terrorist group as having access to nuclear warheads and all associated nasties. It takes an Arnold Schwarzenneger or Bruce Willis to save the day and prevent nuclear holocaust with seconds to spare. And heroes are born, and they get elected to state gubernatorial roles on the flimsiest of platforms.

We must assume therefore that nuclear weapons are easy to come by. What the hell is wrong with Al Qaeda, that it's not up with the play? Maybe OBL just isn't the big bad bogey man he is painted up to be.

Al qaida can't 'bargin' with a nuke. They didn't bargin with those jetliners. THey didn't bargin with the African Embassies or the Cole.

What would they do, announce their terms thru audio cassettes? It wouldn't even work if they wanted to use it.

A nuke going off in a Western City would go a long way to convincing some people to abandon the middle east.

good idea, not only they will kill the US but the whole world, even the middle east will be snowing.
